Peaceful Home – 10 Ways To Create A Less Chaotic Home
Want to have a more peaceful home? Here are 10 simple ways to create a calmer, happier, less chaotic home today.
Let’s chat about how to have a peaceful home.
In an ideal world, our home is a peaceful place and safe haven away from the hectic outside world.
Here we can relax, put our feet up and forget about all the other stresses that exist.
This is usually our ultimate goal but as many parents soon discover this peaceful abode simply doesn’t exist.
At times our home can feel more like a chaotic warzone and peace simply a distant oasis.
Here’s the thing: in order to make your home a sanctuary, you need to be willing to put in a little effort. But thankfully, it’s easier than you think.
Here are ten ways you can find peace in your home:
PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 1 – Clear the Clutter.
Have you ever heard the expression TIDY HOUSE, TIDY MIND?
This is something I have definitely noticed to be true.
When my personal space is clear of clutter, my mind also feels so much clearer.
Many people never feel fully at ease when they’re at home because their home is always disorganized.
Consequently, a cluttered environment leads to a cluttered mind, and a cluttered mind is a chaotic one.
Trust me on this – if you take one weekend to clear the clutter from your home, you’ll feel an immediate difference in your peace level.

PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 2 – Find a Hobby.
Sometimes it’s boredom that gets the best of us when we’re at home.
Bored people tend to find things to complain about if they don’t have something to channel their energy towards.
When you have a hobby to turn to, you’ll find that it’s a lot easier to feel peaceful and fulfilled.
It’s easier to be happy when you are doing things you love.
PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 3 – Turn on the music.
This is a secret tip of mine!
If I am ever feel slightly stressed, I turn on my favorite music and it calms me right now.
Listening to calming music will allow you to let go of the stresses of the day and enjoy your time at home.
Choose whatever kind of music you like, as long as it relaxes you.

PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 4 – Leave your work at work.
If your home is an office away from the office, how can you ever find peace?
Except for the rare occasion, leave your work at work, both physically and mentally.
Now this one is a tough one for me because I work from home.
Even though I absolutely love the freedom that comes from working from home, there are some boundaries that need to be created and set in order to prevent the lines of work and home life becoming blurred.
I personally recommend working in one dedicated space.
It doesn’t have to be a personal office but at least a spot that you know THIS IS WHERE I WORK.
Also, never work in the same room as you sleep, otherwise, you’ll associate your bedroom as a workspace.

PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 5 – Create time to decompress.
Do you rush home from work and immediately take on more responsibilities and chores?
Um don’t worry you are not alone.
I have been known to put down my blogging work and rush straight into doing my other chores.
While this does make me feel productive at times – I am so useful, right? – it also leads to a feeling of overwhelm, all this rushing, rushing, rushing and never stopping to take a break.
Instead, allow yourself even 10 or 15 minutes to relax and unwind before you begin tasks for the home.
Sit down and put your feet up!
Doing so will mark a clear separation in your mind between work and home.
- You might want to just lie on your bed for a few minutes, read a book, or take a shower. This short time will rejuvenate and refresh you.
PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 6 – Be considerate.
Be mindful of your family and their daily stresses as well.
Even when you are trying to be more peaceful, there’s a chance that someone else in your family may be going through a stress of their own.
And that’s okay!
Remember that the people you live with are human, too.
Too often, we take their presence and contributions for granted and think that they need to BEHAVE IN A DIFFERENT WAY FOR US TO BE HAPPY.
Not true!
Show compassion, understanding and gratitude to your other family members.
Even if they are feeling angry or frustrated, that doesn’t mean you have to feel the same way too.
Remember: their thoughts and feelings DO NOT CONTROL YOUR ACTIONS.
Instead it’s YOUR OWN thoughts about their actions and your expectation that they should be different that has the potential to disrupt your sense of peace.
Do your best to be mindful of this.

PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 7 – Use positive reinforcement.
When someone in your family does something to contribute to the peace, be sure to praise them to let them know you appreciate what they did.
Consistently praise the things they do well.
This will help foster more peace in the future.
PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 8 – Pick your battles.
As a parent you know that sometimes a dozen (or a hundred) things don’t go the way you were expecting them too every day.
Now you could nitpick and start a fight about all those little, insignificant things, but is it really worth it? We need to learn to pick our battles.
Rather than making a big deal out of EVERYTHING, choose only the most important transgressions to challenge.
PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 9 – Allow things to roll off your back.
When something isn’t a big deal, just let it go.
Yep, let it go.
Just like we tell our kids to get over things, we need to be willing to do the same.
Instead, focus on maintaining your inner peace.
This will often need to be a conscious choice you make and in the long run you will be so glad that you decided to go this route.
It makes life so much easier!
PEACEFUL HOME
TIP # 10 – Cool off.
When you’re involved in a conflict at home, give yourself some time to cool off.
Doing so will help you calmly talk about your feelings and come to a resolution later on.
Have a safe space you can retreat to.
Listen to that music that always calms you down.
Take a deep breath and go for a quick walk around the block.
Chances are you may later realize that the issue wasn’t as big of a deal as you first thought.
In the end, maintaining peace in your home is important to the health and wellbeing of every family member.
It really is!
