Losing My Temper – 4 Tips To Control Your Temper With Kids
Always losing my temper? That’s okay! Here are 4 tips to help you control your temper in just 7 days (too easy!)
Let’s chat about losing my temper.
Let me guess…are you are always losing your temper too?
You used to cringe when your kids had temper tantrum and thought they looked ridiculous and now you realize that internally your brain is doing the same thing – feeling annoyed and frustrated and wishing you could get your own way?
Does this sound like you?

As adults, I think we learn pretty quickly that letting your temper run rampant is counterproductive.
Deep down, you want to control your temper.
You know it isn’t a good thing and you want to find constructive ways to resolve situations. But for some reason those alternate approaches just seem to elude you.
If that describes you, and you’re really serious about making a change, you’ll be glad to know that such a change is indeed possible.
Yes, it is.
In just 7 days, you can actually learn to approach life differently.
You can discover how to take things in stride and how to develop a greater appreciation for the viewpoints of others. Let me show you how it’s done!

Use these strategies consistently for a week to learn how to successfully control your temper:
LOSING MY TEMPER
TIP 1 – Practice meditation.
This is where I say DON’T KNOCK IT UNTIL YOU TRY IT.
As part of this challenge to get your temper under control, I am requesting that you meditate every day this week.
Here’s the truth: Meditation calms you down.
This is especially true if you do it consistently.
A habitually quiet soul rarely makes room for a bad temper.
- Start by spending a half hour each evening before bed just meditating. Turn on the sounds of the ocean or a trickling river. Avoid letting anything else distract you. Take the time to feel at peace.
- Practice yoga if your body can handle it. Not only does your spiritual energy benefit from yoga, but you also release stress from your muscles by doing the poses.

TIP 2 – Think before you speak.
This might require you to literally bite your tongue but do it if it means thinking before you speak.
I want you to pause before responding to someone as this is a helpful way to controlling your temper.
You might even want to say the word PAUSE inside your head.
You will quickly realize that the responses you choose impact you significantly.
Pausing also helps you to think rationally instead of overreacting.
This week, pay particular attention to pausing before responding in every situation.
- If someone continuously does something to annoy you, avoid getting upset about it. There is no need to take it personally. Simply avoid similar situations and the accompanying annoyances in the future.
- Take a moment and put yourself in the other person’s shoes. How would you feel if they lost their temper with you? How would a calm person respond in the same situation? Always take the time to understand the impact of your actions on others.

TIP 3 – Weigh the outcomes.
This is a pretty important question to ask.
What results could you get from choosing to stay calm versus acting out?
Is there any benefit to losing your temper?
Is this how the best version of you would show up in this world?
This is an important question to consider, even before being faced with a trying situation.
- Each day this week, ask yourself: Did I allow someone or something to really test my patience today? Consider how it affected you. Did you get a headache? Were you having difficulty concentrating for the rest of the day?
- You may often find that losing your temper has far-reaching effects. Your conscience may be bothered after you realize how damaging your reaction was and your feelings may be tinged with regret.

TIP 4 – Be introspective.
It’s important to continue to look within yourself with compassionate and loving eyes.
What really causes you to react irrationally and lose your temper?
What are your triggers?
Why is your reaction so over-the-top?
- Be honest with yourself. If you’ve experienced something painful and are trying to mask it, that could be the cause. Is your anger really hiding a different emotion like hurt?
- Unresolved negative circumstances can honestly prevent you from truly having inner peace. As a result, you may develop the tendency to release negative energy in counter-productive ways.
- Take the time to talk to someone about how you’re feeling. Talk to a family member, friend, or even a professional therapist if you think it would be of benefit to you.
- Avoid allowing your feelings of frustration to fester and negatively impact your interactions with others.
All in all, consider using these guidelines to help you find a place of perfect peace.
After practicing these strategies consistently for a week, you’ll soon discover that you’re automatically beginning to change your behavior.
Slowly but surely always wins the race.
Being able to control your temper will not only dramatically enhance your relationships but help you successfully manage difficult situations in the future.
