STUCK IN LIFE

Stuck In life? – 5 Reasons Why You’re Not Making Progress

Are you stuck in life? Here are 5 reasons why you’re staying stuck in life and making zero progress in life.

Let’s chat about what to do if you are stuck in life.

I know, I know. Life can be frustrating, especially when you know you could be doing much better.

Here’s the thing: You might be intelligent, friendly, and talented, but still fail to make significant progress in your life.

The first thing you need to do is avoid confusing potential with results. No matter how talented you may be, it’s still necessary to apply your time and effort effectively.

Your potential means nothing if you aren’t actually taking constructive action in life.

It doesn’t mean anything to be smart if you don’t apply your knowledge.

It doesn’t mean anything to be creative if you don’t apply your creativity.

Remember dreams won’t just fall into your lap unless you go out there and chase them.

There are a few reasons why you might be struggling in your life, and they’re all under your control. That’s good news.

You can change anything you control.

Here’s how you can make more progress in life by eliminating these errors:

STUCK IN LIFE
REASON # 1 – You don’t know what you want.

Let’s say a waitress brings out the dessert cart.

The display in front of you might be filled with the most tempting treats but if you don’t actually make a choice about what you want to have, you will go hungry.

Everything else in life is the same way.

Another example –

Let’s say you are stuck choosing between a career as a physician or a rocket scientist.

If you fail to make a decision that you commit to wholeheartedly, you might find yourself missing out on both and instead taking whatever job you can just to get by.

It’s like taking out a map with a plan to go on a road-trip. If you don’t commit to a place and make a choice, you will most likely drive around aimlessly and end up at some place you don’t particularly care to be.

You need to learn to make choices that you are willing to commit to.

You need to learn to clarify what you want out of life.

Making a choice is more important than making the perfect choice.

Weigh your options and be brave enough to pull the trigger.

Choose something instead of choosing nothing (which is a choice itself).

REASON # 2 – You change your mind too frequently.

Imagine starting from Topeka, Kansas with the intention of driving to Los Angeles.

You have grand plans for a fabulous vacation but after 500 miles, you change your mind and decide to drive to Miami, so you turn around.

A thousand miles later, you have another change of heart and decide to go to Seattle.

You’re then passing by your home when you realize that you don’t have even enough vacation time left to drive to Seattle, spend a couple of days, and drive back.

  • You’ve been busy and working hard, but you changed your mind too much to accomplish anything. You’re exactly where you started, but now you’re exhausted, too.
  • It’s important to choose a direction for your life and stay the course. Do you find it easy to stay on track or are you constantly distracted with getting ideas and options?
  • You need to know that constantly changing direction is not only tiring and frustrating it gets you NOWHERE FAST.

REASON # 3 – How much of your time do you spend effectively?

Scary fact: The average office employee spends less than 25% of their time at work actually doing anything of value for their employer.

Now a question for you: Think about all the time you have at your own disposal – that’s 24 hours every day. How much of your time are you spending to enhance your life?

  • How much time do you waste each day?
  • Playing on your phone, watching TV, surfing the internet, daydreaming, worrying, and hanging out with your friends will never help you to make progress in your life. I’m not kidding – actually add up the hours. What are the results – time wasting versus life enhancing?

Time is the great equalizer.

  • It all comes down to how you spend your time. The better you can spend your time, the better your life will be. Amen! There’s a golden nugget you should hold onto that I just gave you for free.
  • Honestly no other resource matters as much as your time. Start by keeping track of your time for a week. Every 30 minutes, record how you spend those minutes. Do it consistently. After that evaluate the data. Were you surprised by how much time you waste each day?

REASON # 4 – You give up too easily.

One of my favorite sayings is PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. I say it all the time because it’s the truth. Good things take time to happen.

You can’t lose 50 pounds or make a million dollars in a month.

It will take time and lots of patience to make significant progress in your life.

Sure there will also be obstacles along the way but you need to expect the hurdles and prepare for them because they are INEVITABLE.

Perseverance is critical.

Be patient and keep going.

Please don’t give up too easily because that action won’t get you any closer to your goals.

REASON # 5 – You don’t manage your negative emotions well enough to be successful.

Frustration, fear, boredom, anxiety, and impatience are common emotions that pop up, especially if you’re trying to do something challenging.

  • Mastering yourself is the ultimate pathway to mastering life.

  • If you KNOW these emotions are normal, then you won’t freak out so much when they appear in your life.

  • If you KNOW these emotions are expected, you can begin to come up with a plan to help you cope with them in advance.

  • If you know what you want, the only true obstacle you have is yourself. Things are easier when you understand that you are the one in control.

When you stop pointing fingers at others and take responsibility for your actions and life, you can begin making meaningful progress in your life, no matter how long you’ve been stuck in a rut.

IN CONCLUSION:

Go through this list again and recognize if or how you’ve been contributing to your own struggles.

If you know you are struggling with one of these progress-halting behaviors and feel like you have been making zero progress, work at what you need to do to get past it.

Make a decision and stick with it.

Progress comes from using each day effectively.

If you persevere and manage yourself effectively, you can accomplish anything.
