I Am A Failure – Good! Here Are 8 More Ways To Fail Effectively
If you think “I am a failure” please don’t stress. Failure is important and here are 8 ways to use failures to your advantage.
Let’s chat about the words “I am a failure.”
Because you decide this is the worst thing in the world I want you to know that failure is a part of any endeavor.
Some might say that if you are not failing, you’re not really trying.
Consider the following quotes:
Success is most often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable – Coco Chanel
There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure – Paulo Coelho
Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing – Denis Waitley
When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important – Ellen DeGeneres
Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success – Robert T. Kiyosaki
Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I’ve met people who don’t want to try for fear of failing – J.K. Rowling

Ultimately, you get to choose whether you want to allow failure to affect your state of mind or you can choose to take advantage of it.
As long as you realize that the most successful people are those who are getting the most out of each failure.
And you can do the same – you can CHOOSE to use failure to your benefit.
The scary thing is that most of us have learned to avoid failure at all costs.
But failure is also wonderful way to learn and stretch yourself.
In fact, failing regularly will give you the best chance of long-term success.
Here’s how you can achieve greater levels of success by failing effectively:
I AM A FAILURE – ADVICE TO KEEP IN MIND
TIP 1 – Fail quickly.
If an idea isn’t going to pan out, you might as well figure it sooner rather than later.
Avoid spending too much time on a faulty premise.
It doesn’t make sense to invest time and money over 12 months only to realize that an idea won’t work if you could’ve reached the same conclusion in three weeks.
- At the same time, it’s important not to fail too quickly. Give an idea a fair chance to be successful. Some things take time more time than others do.

TIP 2 – Ensure that you are failing for the right reason.
Before you give up on an idea, be certain that the necessary time and resources have also been utilized.
If something has gone wrong, you need to determine carefully if it was the idea or the execution.
- Have you considered every possible need of your project?
- Can your idea still work if you change your approach?

TIP 3 – Fail differently each time.
Many people tend to repeat their mistakes but that isn’t the best way to fail.
You ideally want to fail differently each time.
Failing is sort of a waste of time if you fail to learn something from the experience.
That’s because each time you fail in a new way, you have the opportunity to improve your approach.

TIP 4 – After each failure, make a list of everything you learned.
What did you actually learn from that failure?
How did you grow?
And how can you apply that information to your future endeavors?
What’s the next logical step for you?
I have to warn you: failing isn’t fun.
That’s why you need to make sure you are getting the most out of each failing experience.
Keep a failure journal to record your discoveries and new ideas.
They definitely exist!
- Now it is time to create a plan for your future that considers the new information you have acquired. Bear in mind, this is a plan that will continue to evolve over time.

TIP 5 – Keep an accurate perspective.
Think about the word failure.
What does it really mean?
It is simply an undesired result.
That’s it.
Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s not a grading of your intelligence, worth, or future.
There’s no reason to take it personally.
It’s simply an idea that didn’t work out.
Maintain detached from your results and forge ahead.
- The great coach, John Wooden, once stated that he hoped no one would be able to tell if his team had won or lost based on the team’s demeanor after a game. That’s detachment.
- So do your best to stay resilient. Your feelings of self-worth aren’t dependent on your results. You can feel good about yourself even when you DON’T achieve your desired outcome.
- Be proud that you were brave enough to fail and continue.

TIP 6 – Keep failure and fault separate.
We all learned in childhood that admitting to mistakes resulted taking the blame.
But the same truth doesn’t apply to failure.
Be proud to own your mistakes.
You didn’t do anything wrong, except learn a new way not to do something.
Whether you’re working on a self-improvement project or a project at work, keep the blame to a minimum.

TIP 7 – Failure should bring you closer to an optimal solution.
The more challenging the goal, the more times you can expect to fail before achieving success.

TIP 8 – Effective failing creates new opportunities.
Many of the most important inventions resulted from mistakes.
For example, the glue used in post-it notes resulted from an attempt to create a super-strong adhesive.
Then there is the famous quote by Thomas Edison who said:
I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work
Avoid feeling down about failing. It is actually something positive!
I want you to begin to view each failure as a step in the right direction.
There’s much to be learned via failure.
Embrace failure.
Just do your best to fail effectively!
