Introverted Thinking – 8 Ways Introverts Can Thrive In Life

Are you an introvert saddled with introverted thinking? Here are 8 ways you can thrive in this world as an introvert.

Let’s chat about introverted thinking.

It needs to be said that while extroverts might seem to rule the world, there are plenty of introverts behind the scenes with a lot of power and influence.

Just so you know: Some of the most powerful, smartest people in the world were or are in fact introverts. Are you surprised? I’m not!

Some of the most famous introverts include:

  • Albert Einstein
  • Bill Gates
  • Elon Musk
  • Warren Buffet
  • Barack Obama
  • Steven Spielberg
  • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Meryl Streep
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Isaac Newton
  • Mahatma Gandhi
  • Michael Jordan

So me personally…I like to think of myself as an introverted extrovert.

I’m outgoing, don’t have an issue chatting with total strangers and love spending time with my friends.

But deep down I am an introvert at heart.

INTROVERTED THINKING

Even though I enjoy socializing, it needs to be balanced out with quiet time to recharge my inner being.

I don’t ever suffer from FOMO because when I need to recharge I personally opt to have some down-time (maybe because with two kids now, peace and quiet is what I crave).

I can talk and talk but at the same time I am a seriously deep and reflective thinker.

Certain people and interactions seriously drain me while others give me energy and make me feel better.

Typical Gemini I think – as quiet as I am loud, as serious as I am frivolous, as much a homebody as I am a social bee AKA the introverted extrovert.

For all my friends who veer on the introverted side, I want to assure you that this is a beautiful quality to have.

I want you to embrace it, be proud of it and don’t ever feel like you need to change.

In a world full of extraverts you may be wondering how you can navigate the world while still staying true to your introverted nature.

Well the good news is there is a way you can thrive and still stay comfortable, at least most of the time.

Our culture is biased against quiet and reserved people, but introverts are responsible for some of humanity’s greatest achievements. Susan Cain

To thrive in this world as an introvert and harness your introvert power, try these techniques:

INTROVERTED THINKING

TIP 1 # – Harness the power of the written word.

You can reach and influence a lot of people these days, especially with the internet.

  • While you might not be comfortable talking in front of a large group of people, you can still make your voice heard by potentially millions of people by putting your thoughts in written form. And, all of this can be done from the comfort of your home.

  • Blogs, forums, and online magazines are just a few examples. You can also make good use of email in the workplace. This is how I get my word out – via my blog and I found this method to be so effective.

TIP 2 # – Choose your career wisely.

You can be anything you want to be, but it will be easier if you make a career choice that accommodates your basic nature.

What jobs do you feel match your natural personality the best?

There are so many career options that fit an introvert perfectly.

Find a list online and see what appeals to you and your personality.

TIP 3 # – Plan alone time throughout the day.

Taking a break from others can recharge your batteries and your mood.

Introverts definitely need their breaks and alone time.

See if there’s a way you can get away for a few minutes every couple of hours.

You’ll feel better and be more productive.

TIP 4 # – Go with your strengths.

This is good advice for everyone, whether they’re introverted or not.

Think about your greatest strengths and how you can apply those to the world.

This is a great recipe for success.

“Isn’t it refreshing to know that what comes perfectly natural for you is your greatest strength? Your power is in your nature. You may not think it’s a big deal that you can spend hours immersed in something that interests you — alone — but the extrovert next door has no idea how you do it.  Laurie Helgoe

I  owe everything that I have done to the fact that I am very much at ease being alone. Marilynne Robinson

TIP 5 # – Pay attention to your nonverbal behavior.

The scientists tell us that nonverbal communication is more important than verbal communication. Use this to your advantage.

  • Think about your clothing, how you stand, your eye contact, and so on. Become a master at the nonverbal game, and you’ll find that your reluctance to speak excessively won’t matter much at all.

I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion. Henry David Thoreau

INTROVERTED THINKING

TIP 6 # – Be willing to engage in small talk.

Introverts often shun small talk because it seems trivial to them.

Yet, the rest of the world takes part in small talk.

It’s an easy, non-threatening way to fit in and connect with others.

Introverts could always use another friend, even if they don’t particularly want one.

So stretch yourself to connect with other like-minded introverts, who think the way you do and act the way you do as you guys are more alike than you may initially think.

TIP 7 # – Stay abreast of new technology.

It’s not easy to stay current with the latest technology, apps, and social media platforms.

It takes time and a willingness to immerse yourself.

However this can be a great way to add value to any organization.

Most introverts enjoy learning, and this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone. Work to your strengths!

TIP 8 # – Know what overstimulates you.

What is it exactly that wears you out?

Is it being surrounded by a large group of people?

Noise?

Speaking to a group?

Speaking with strangers?

Making decisions quickly?

Each introvert is unique.

Find a place in life that minimizes situations that feel overwhelming.

When I was young, all I wanted and expected from life was to sit quietly in some corner doing my work without the public paying attention to me. And now see what has become of me. Albert Einstein

In the end, you don’t have to be an extrovert to thrive in the world. You really don’t need to be!

There’s plenty of room for every type of person in this world.

You can be yourself and still have a great life and career.

You’ll have to make some smart choices to get the most out of your life, but that’s true for everyone.

Wear you introvert badge proudly.

I promise you, it is something to be proud of.

You can and will thrive as you are, when you learn to harness the power of being an introvert!

The day I began to live is the day I discovered being an introvert was awesome. Maxime Lagacé

I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude. Henry David Thoreau

The one who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. Those who walk alone are likely to find themselves in places no one has ever been before. Francis Phillip Wernig
