Self Sabotaging Behavior – 6 Destructive Beliefs to Banish Forever
Do you have self sabotaging behavior you need to ditch? Here are 6 sabotaging beliefs you need to get rid of today.
Let’s chat about self sabotaging behavior.
What you think and believe about yourself, the world, and your life has a powerful impact on your everyday existence.
This is why it is so important to pay close attention to your feelings.
If you have signs of self-destructive beliefs, it is absolutely vital to work to identify and deal with them as some beliefs are downright destructive to the process of living a successful, fulfilling life.
Not convinced? Take a read of the following quote:
It’s so important to recognize your own self-destructive behavior and be honest about it. You’re only hurting yourself or losing out on your truth and happiness. I’m not afraid to face my personal stuff. It’s so important to dig it up and figure it out and move on. Christina Aguilera
The cool thing is if you can identify your self-sabotaging thoughts (which I will help you with in this post!), you can then work to banish them from your life for good.
Take the time now to review the following list of 6 unhelpful thoughts to see if any of them seem familiar to you.
If some do ring a bell, make a promise to yourself to recognize when you’re thinking in these ways so you can replace these negative, irrational thoughts with more positive, realistic ones.
Let’s take a look now a 6 common self-destructive and self sabotaging thoughts.

Self Sabotaging Behavior
THOUGHT # 1 – “I’ll never have the life I want.”
Okay hopefully you can see how this statement will never be helpful to you in your quest to achieve your dreams.
How can you continue to move forward and work toward accomplishing what you want if you believe this statement?
Thinking in these terms, quite simply, relieves you of making any efforts whatsoever toward what you want.
- Replace it with a more positive concept like, “I work each day toward getting the life that I want to have and here’s how I can do it.”

THOUGHT # 2 – “It’s just like my mom said; I won’t ever amount to anything.”
Okay so we weren’t all lucky enough to have super parents.
Some of us had parents who said things without thinking and even if they didn’t necessarily believe it was true (they just said it out of anger or spite) those words still left a lasting and destructive impression on us.
You might have had a mom or dad who said demeaning statements to you or who just didn’t realize the potential you had.
- It’s time to release yourself from these long-standing, self-deprecating beliefs as you can’t move forward if you are holding onto words that belong to someone else and are definitely not true. Letting go of them will do you a world of good!
- Free yourself from remaining loyal to your parent’s sentiments about you. Instead, create your own truth through the actions you take each day to live your best life.

Self Sabotaging Behavior
THOUGHT # 3 – “I’m not good-looking enough to get the partner I want.”
A good way to dispute this ill-conceived notion is to just look around you every day.
Everyone who has a partner doesn’t meet the standards of Miss America and the Ken doll.
- Each person has her own unique look (unless you’re a twin or multiple) and everyone is beautiful in their own special way. That’s what beauty is about but not everyone sees it in themselves.
- For the record it’s okay if your hair isn’t perfect or you’re not as tall as you’d like to be. The truth is beauty isn’t about having a pretty face.
- It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart and most importantly a beautiful soul. Even if traditional beauty attracts the eye, it is the personality of a person that captures their heart.
Take an honest look at yourself and notice your strengths – beautiful green eyes or a gorgeous smile.
If you’ve got characteristics that are changeable that you’d like to alter through your lifestyle, commit to changing those things.
But you don’t need to change to be more beautiful.
You already are beautiful.
The truth is that everyone finds a partner in the world as long as they’re open to doing so.

Self Sabotaging Behavior
THOUGHT # 4 – “My life is like this because that’s just the way it is. I can’t do anything about it.”
Ah this is another lie.
This fatalistic way of thinking will doom you to living a blah life waiting for something to happen.
Why not turn the tables – instead of waiting for life to do something for you, take the bull by the horns and create your own life step by step, day by day.
It is up to you to make the changes that you want to see in your life!
- Identify the power you have to create the life that you want. Then use it to construct the life you seek.
Self Sabotaging Behavior
THOUGHT # 5 – “I’m not smart enough to get the job I want.”
This type of thinking will only serve to convince you that you can’t have the career you pine for.
Instead, recognize you don’t have to be the smartest person in the world to land a job you love or create a career that brings you joy, confidence, and good fortune.
- Commit right now to take steps to do whatever is necessary to obtain the career you seek. You don’t need to be super smart to live your dream life.
- What is more important is that you have a sense of purpose and passion.

Self Sabotaging Behavior
THOUGHT # 6 – “Money problems keep plaguing me. My finances are out of my control.”
Let me share with you a secret.
Your mindset about money will actively create your own financial reality.
This means this thought can be devastating to your life over the years.
You need to recognize that you are 100% responsible for your finances.
You must gain control over your money or the lack of it will forever control you.
Also, it’s not how much money you make, it’s how much money you keep and save that will determine the kind of financial life you live.
- Take a long, hard look at your financial practices.
- Go see a budget counselor to help you get your bills paid off and most importantly, to write up a budget that will ensure you’ll save over the years regardless of the amount you earn.

SELF SABOTAGING BEHAVIOR
In the end, these 6 self-destructive beliefs will hold you back in life until you finally stop to throw them out.
You need to look at replacing these old beliefs with a new, positive, more realistic way of thinking.
Because the truth is you can be successful in life, starting right now!
You can be happy.
You are worthy.
Your dreams are worth chasing and there is no reason why you can’t achieve them in this lifetime.
If not you, then who? If not now, when?
