2022 Goals – 6 Types of Goals You Should Be Setting
Want to set some 2022 goals but not sure what to do? Here are 6 types of goals that you should consider setting this year.
Let’s chat about 2022 goals.
Here’s a little weird thing I have noticed lately:
Most people understand that goals are important to happiness and success, but only a tiny portion of the population actually take the time to set goals regularly and commit to them (honestly what’s the deal with that?).
It dawned on me this part of the challenge could be linked to people not understanding the main categories that you can set goals in.
Yep there are different categories to consider and each one is important (because they all have an impact on your life).
Rather than set one big goal (or gasp, NONE) take the time now to think about what you want to achieve in each of these six areas.

Here are the main six areas to consider setting goals in:
2022 GOALS
1 – Financial
Let’s be honest. Financial issues are a major source of stress.
I think most of us will admit that having an abundance of money would definitely equal less stress and more freedom.
Financial success opens endless opportunities and also frees up a lot of your time, (especially if it means you don’t have to work so hard anymore.)
Remember time is a precious commodity and resource. It is worth working towards having more time up your sleeve.
Have you taken the time to think about how much wealth you want to accumulate and how you will do this?
Many people feel uncomfortable with the idea of becoming wealthy and therefore avoid talking or thinking about it.
But you can’t move forward in this area unless you take the time to set some financial goals.
A lack of focus tends to lead to a lack of progress.

2 – Career
Most of us spend 40+ hours each week at a job of some sort and hopefully it’s one you love!
Do you love your work?
I know I do.
The moment I discovered blogging, I seriously found my little piece of heaven right here on Earth (gushy but true! After writing 20 books, I felt so happy to finally have a corner of the Internet to call my second home).
Now what about you?
Have you set a goal for this area in your life?
Does your job make you feel fulfilled or are you itching to do something different?
If you don’t have any goals regarding the direction of your career, you’re much less likely to be satisfied with your career growth.
As Buddha once so wisely said, choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.
(Well technically you do work but it feels so fun and incredibly satisfying to do it – speaking from experience here!)

3 – Adventure
I could have called this category FUN but hopefully you get what I mean.
In a nutshell this category is about encouraging you to do more than just EXIST.
The world is this truly amazing place but most people are too scared or stuck in their ways to go out there and actually explore it.
Life is meant to be lived.
It is meant to be filled with adventures.
Listen to the master himself Richard Branson who said: if happiness is the goal – and it should be, then adventures should be a priority.
Now I know – each person has their own idea of what constitutes adventure.
But take the time to work out what it means to you.
To one person, it might be skydiving (did it and loved it), but to another it might be spending a long weekend in a forest surrounded by nature (I’m guessing that is a thing you can aim to do).

2022 GOALS
4 – Self-Development
This category could also be called personal growth, if someone thinks the term self-development sounds too woo-woo (not you of course, but other random people who turn their noses up at people who are trying to better themselves).
Here’s the thing: we are truly most happiest when we’re growing in some way.
It’s disappointing to take a hard look at yourself and realize that you haven’t changed significantly in the last 5+ years.
Life is growth and if we stop growing technically and spiritually then we are as good as dead.
We feel proud of ourselves when we become more developed and capable.
There are a variety of ways to do this.
- Take college courses.
- Learn an instrument.
- Learn a language.
- Learn how to garden.
- Learn how to do a cartwheel.
- Learn how to paint or draw.
Change is inevitable but personal growth is a choice you make.
Where you are now a year from now is a reflection of the choices you choose to make right now. Allow yourself to grow and change.
Your future self is waiting for you.

2022 GOALS
5 – Health
Oh my, when it comes to the category of health most people fall into one of two categories.
A) it’s their only goal (to lose weight) or
B) they set lots of other goals in the areas of work and relationships and adventure and completely forget to acknowledge the area of health altogether.
News alert – your health is really the greatest wealth.
If your health fails you, there’s not much else that matters.
Most people that set goals fail to include a health goal of some sort.
This is a massive mistake.
- Be sure to include a diet or exercise goal. Include the input of your physician. Remember: he who has health has hope and he who has hope has everything you need.

2022 GOALS
6 – Long-term
When you set goals do you just think short term or do you look far ahead in the future?
We often make the mistake of only setting short-term goals to get out of the discomfort we’re currently feeling. It might be to come up with an extra $500 this month or to lose 15 pounds.
- Ideally, short-term goals exist to move us toward long-term goals.
- Pursuing an objective set far into the future gives your life meaning. You can include relationship goals in this category.
So let me ask you now: How many goals do you have?
Do your goals cover all the six main types of goals covered in this blog post?
What other categories can you think of that are important to you?

2022 GOALS
Consider what’s most important to you and ensure that you have a goal that addresses it.
Most successful people have unbalanced lives because they put too much attention on one area and neglect others.
You should regularly set goals beyond your reach so that you always have something to live and strive for.
Remember a goal without a plan is also just a wish.
If you want to be truly happy (which I’m sure you do) set goals that command your thoughts, liberate your energy and inspire you to hope and reach for your dreams.
The moment you put a deadline on your dream it becomes a goal and hopefully you will set lots of them!
