How To Say No Politely – 6 Ways To Say NO With Zero Guilt

Want to know how to say no politely? Well here are the 6 easiest way to say NO THANK YOU without zero guilt or stress.

Let’s chat about how to say no politely.

It’s amazing to think about how much power two letters can hold.

NO.

No is itself a complete sentence, even though we often feel tempted to add an elaborate explanation to the end of those words. NO but…..NO except….NO and…

Sometimes we have a hard time telling others the “No” word.

We feel guilty. We feel anxious. Unfortunately though – when you want to say NO and leave it unsaid or say yes instead, it can come at your own expense.

Saying YES to others when you want to say NO means you lose time to do the things you really want (or need) to do.

It can also cause you to feel resentful towards the other person and yourself.

Now for the good news: telling others that you can’t agree to their request doesn’t have to be a difficult, painful thing.

If you struggle with the idea of saying no, here are some ideas you can put to use immediately.

1 – Explain that your other commitments are taking up all your time right now.

They will understand, I promise.

Everyone is busy at times and knows what it feels like to be time poor.

In fact, most of us carry a heavy load of responsibilities.

You might feel tempted to go into a little detail about the other things you have going on in order to increase their level of understanding.

But only do this if you want to – not because you feel forced to.

2 – Say that you’re in the middle of something and that you’ll get back to them.

If you’re caught on the spot and have no idea how you should reply, it’s okay to delay your answer.

Chances are you feel unprepared to commit to a YES or NO on the spot (totally normal if you have been hit with a request for immediate help).

Instead let the person know that you can’t help right now but that you might be able to help soon – you just need to check!

If it really is urgent, they’ll find someone else and shouldn’t feel resentful towards you if you are sincere and polite with your reply.

3 – Tell them that you’ll think about it.

This is more of a “maybe” than an absolute “no” reply but feel free to keep it up your sleeve if you really aren’t sure just yet.

I do recommend you avoid using this option if you really do want to say “no.”

The best answer then IS NO!

Otherwise, you can take the time you need to consider it and remember to get back to them.

Feel free to suggest your own deadline or an alternative that works for better for you if you can’t comply fully with their first request.

4 – If someone is trying to sell something to you, tell them that their offering doesn’t meet your needs but you’ll get back to them if your needs change.

I feel like it is so much easy to nip this in the bud immediately.

This puts an end to the matter quickly without the other person feeling insulted.

After all, you’re just saying no to their product or service; you’re not rejecting them personally.

5 – Tell them that so-and-so would be a better help.

In this case, you’re not refusing to help them. In fact, you are helping them by suggesting someone more capable of satisfying their needs. Win-win for you both.

6 – Tell them that you’d like to help, but….

This lets the other party know that you would like their offer or would like to provide assistance to them, but (fill in the blank).

What is the reason you are saying no?

Are you away on holidays?

Working on a big work project?

Still too busy or their offer doesn’t meet your needs but you decide to add a further explanation.

It’s similar to #1 and #4, but is more supportive and encouraging.

All in all, if you’ll learn to say “no” to the things that you really don’t want to do, don’t have the time to do, or don’t fit your needs, your life will be much richer for it.

Like many other things in life, it may feel hard at first but I promise, it gets easier with practice.

After you get used to it, you’ll be surprised how easy it is and how receptive others can be.

Remember to tell the truth and stay true to yourself.

One of the options above is bound to be and feel true to you.

There’s no reason to feel like you need to be dishonest.

So next time to hear a question and you know deep down in your heart the answer is no, don’t be shared to share it.

Honor your intuition and tell whoever needs to hear that one powerful word

NO.

Much love and best of luck xx
