Let’s chat about coaching skills.

Have you ever noticed that the hustle and bustle of daily life can sometimes distract us from focusing on what is really most important to us?

NEWS ALERT: It’s up to each of us to figure out how to live a personally fulfilling life and we can use coaching skills to create this life for us.

You get to decide what constitutes a meaningful life to you.

You get to decide how you want to spend your time.

You get to decide what you choose to focus your attention on.

Although much of your life is shared with others, that doesn’t mean you can’t still carve out your own space for a rich, meaningful life.

COACHING SKILLS

Here’s how you can take action now to live a life that you love:

COACHING SKILLS

# 1 – Clarify what matters to you.

How you spend your time largely determines what’s important to you.

If you say your family is at the top of your list, is that obvious to everyone when you look at how you spend your time?

Is this where you devote the bulk of your spare time?

When you know for sure who and what matters most to you, then that’s where you want to focus your time and energy.

2 – Stay in the moment.

If you’re planting flowers, think about packing the earth well and digging the hole deeply enough.

Remind yourself that you also need to water your new flower immediately afterwards.

Regardless of what you’re involved in, keep your mind focused on the present moment.

Even when you’re washing the pots and pans, you can concentrate on having the nice, hot water running and the process of cleaning the pans the way you like them.

Be focused on the here and now.

3 – Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Do your words carry importance and honesty, along with kindness and care?

Avoid mincing words or saying what you don’t really mean.

It’s fine to get to the point, but remember to take the other person’s feelings into consideration.

Be open.

Be honest.

Share your heartfelt feelings and go deep.

This is equal more meaningful conversation for both you and the listener.

COACHING SKILLS

4 – Find your passion.

What gets you interested, excited, or fascinated about life?

Has there ever been a topic that you think about all day long to the point where you can hardly stand it?

If so, follow your passion.

Make it an important part of your life as often as you can.

If it’s writing, write as often as you can.

If your passion is working with children, then pursue it, whether it’s through working at a nursery school, becoming a school teacher, or serving as the neighborhood babysitter.

Dream big and make it happen.

5 – Worry less about what others think.

It really doesn’t matter in life what other people think. It matters more what you think so make sure to pay attention to your thoughts.

If someone isn’t a relevant player in your personal life, then what they believe about you is irrelevant.

It’s what you believe about yourself is what matters.

Use your emotional fortitude in ways that make your life better.

Ensure that your opinion of yourself is great!

6 – Instead of complaining, accept the situation or take action.

If what you’re upset about is out of your control, it might be time to just accept it.

Sometimes it just is what it is.

However, if it’s something that’s within your power to change, take action.

Remember the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can, and
The wisdom to know the difference.

The truth is complaining is a waste of your precious time.

Focus on problem-solving instead.

Remember you are either part of the problem or part of the solution.

COACHING SKILLS

7 – Accept responsibility for your life.

If you’re unhappy, there’s no reason to blame your parents, spouse, or boss.

Step up and make some decisions to change the things that trouble you.

FYI: You are the captain of your own ship.

You can steer this ship in whichever direction you choose.

Figure out the course you want to take and then stay on it.

8 – Refuse to criticize.

When I say don’t criticize, I mean don’t criticize others so much.

Everyone has the right to live their own life, think their own thoughts, and make their own mistakes.

Worry less about others and focus more on assessing your own life instead.

Notice the good qualities in others and make positive changes in yourself – this is where your power lies.

COACHING SKILLS

9 – “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

As the ever-so-wise Mahatma Gandhi once said:  be the change you want to see in the world.

This is how you start to make a difference in your own life and the lives of others.

Want to be kinder?

Be kinder.

Want to be more productive?

Be more productive.

Want to spread love around to others?

Spread that love around to others.

It is that simple.

If you want change to happen in your life, you need to make that change happen.

Volunteer.

Join a club.

Get involved!
