Positive Parenting – 16 Tips To Be A Positive Parent
Looking for positive parenting tips? Here are the very best 16 tips to be a more positive parent for your kids.
Let’s chat about positive parenting.
As parents, we often have the best intentions, but with our busy schedules we might find it challenging to always parent in a positive way.
Honestly that’s just the way it sometimes goes!
Life is 50 – 50.
50% positive emotions and 50% not so pleasant ones.
Totally normal my friend.
But when allow our daily duties get the best of us and we lose patience and focus, our interactions with our children might become reactive and can lead to conflict.
Am I right?
The secret is becoming more conscious of the thoughts that are leading you to feelings of stress.
What is making you feel this negative way and what can you do to change these thoughts?
Being more conscious of positive parenting actions and using this checklist as a gentle reminder can drastically benefit the quality of your interactions with your kids.

Here are some of my best positive parenting tips:
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 1 – Encourage healthy sleep, exercise, and eating habits.
Work out what makes you show up as the best version of you.
Is it sleeping 8 hours every night?
Is it going for a 30 minute walk each day?
Is it eating well rather than consuming crap?
Work it out and then implement it in your life.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 2 – Show interest by asking for updates on school activities.
Genuinely be interested in what your kids are up to.
Ask them questions.
Show up in a way that reminds them how much they are loved.

POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 3 – Compliment your kids.
Celebrate their efforts and accomplishments, no matter how big or small they seem.
Let your kids know that you SEE and accept them unconditionally.
There is nothing they could do that can make you LOVE them any less.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 4 – Encourage involvement in extracurricular activities.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 5 – Show affection with kind words.
Sometimes words speak louder than actions.
What are your words demonstrating to your kids today?
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 6 – Spend quality time together.
Write a list of activities that you can do together and enjoy.
The secret to making this time special – ditch your phone and listen to what your kids have to say.

POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 7 – Help your children learn ways to problem-solve and teach them how to make positive decisions.
Set a positive example.
Practice what you preach.
Be a good model rather than an unintentional hypocrite.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 8 – Be available for advice and support.
Let your kids know you are there for help if they need help.
Always.
Any time of the day.
Any time of the night.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 9 – Encourage positive choices about the way free time is spent.
Time is precious so use it wisely.
How can you use it in a way that isn’t wasteful?
What does wasting time look like to you?

POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 10 – Show kindness and compassion when your kids face difficult situations.
Your kids are just learning and growing in life like you are like.
Just like you, they are fallible and they will make mistakes.
This is normal.
They are humans too with a human brain.
Don’t hold this against them.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 11 – Avoid teasing, yelling, or threatening your children.
You are an adult so behave like one at all times.
This means doing your best to avoid teasing your kids.
Avoid yelling.
And avoid threatening your kids too.
Teasing isn’t necessary.
It is mean.
Yelling isn’t necessary.
Not when there’s another kinder way.
And threatening isn’t necessary either.
When you know better you can do better.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 12 – Show physical affection.
Hug and kiss your kids.
Let them know you will love them no matter what.

POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 13 – Be aware of your own behavior and the examples you’re setting.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 14 – Continuously develop your skills and knowledge about positive parenting.
Remember what I mentioned earlier?
Practice what you teach.
Kids learn respect by seeing respect.
Kids learn love by experiencing love.
Kids learn responsibility by seeing it in action.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 15 – Give your children the responsibility and freedom they earned.
As parents we have a tendency to want to hover, to want to save our kids from experiencing any pain but what they often need more is the space to grow and freedom to learn to be independent.
Don’t prematurely clip their wings.
Encourage them to fly when they are ready, even if you are not necessarily ready.
POSITIVE PARENTING
TIP # 16 – Keep on learning.
Parenting is a lifelong job that is always changing and evolving so be prepared to learn new skills along the way.
You won’t always have all the answers.
And that’s okay.
You aren’t meant to know all the answers in advance.
Instead we learn along the way.
These are the little secrets to positive parenting success.
