I Made A Mistake – The Story Of The Ugly Cushion

Ever thought to yourself: I made a mistake? Heres a story of the ugly cushion that will make you want to admit all future mistakes ASAP.

Let’s chat about the phrase: I made a mistake.

I don’t often use the word ugly but this story involves an ugly cushion.

About two years ago my daughter and I visited the markets one day where she stumbled upon a cushion she wanted to buy.

Now I don’t often have an opinion on what my kids want to spend their money on – if they love it and feel like it’s a good value exchange, happy days!

I MADE A MISTAKE

But it was hard not to share my thoughts on this cushion.

It was super-sized and actually hurt my eyes when I looked at it.

I said to her: “Are you sure? It’s a little bit ugly?”

She insisted she loved it and we took this monstrosity home with us where she promptly placed it on her bed.

Every time I passed her bedroom in the weeks after its purchase, I swear my face winced.

Here is a quick pic of the said cushion being transported to the charity shop

I MADE A MISTAKE

Fast forward to yesterday and my daughter was decluttering her room when she pulled out the massive ugly cushion from her wardrobe.

It had been so long since I had seen it, I almost jumped back in fright.

I hadn’t missed seeing it at all.

It turns out not long after purchasing it she had decided that she in fact didn’t like it.

It was too big.

It was an eyesore.

It clashed with everything in her room.

So she had shoved it into her wardrobe and there it took up a massive amount of her space.

She hated the cushion but kept it there anyway.

I MADE A MISTAKE

I MADE A MISTAKE

Yesterday she asked me if she could donate it to a charity shop.

I didn’t know whether she was asking if they took cushions in general or if they would take THIS particular jumbo-sized cushion.

I’ll be honest – I couldn’t get it to the charity shop fast enough.

I’m sure there was potential for someone else to love it more than we did.

I ended up telling my daughter she should’ve gotten rid of it two years ago.

“Next time just admit you made a mistake. There’s nothing wrong with admitting you made a mistake.”

I MADE A MISTAKE

So the takeaway for you today is this:

If you make a mistake, just own up to it.

I mean, big deal that you made a mistake.

Every human in this world does  – on the regular.

Admitting that you made a mistake is a better option than shoving something into the back of your wardrobe and trying to pretend it doesn’t exist.

It does exist and until you rectify your mistake it’s just going to sit there taking up both mental and physical space in your life.

This applies to clothes and shoes you bought – that you thought would look great but don’t.

This applies to relationships you have entered into but wish you could ditch.

This applies to anything that you change your mind about (and guess what? you are allowed to change your mind!)

So what’s your ugly cushion mistake?

Have you got one too?

If so, be honest and get rid of it ASAP.

Chances are no one will be shocked or surprised at your admission.

I can’t believe my daughter had to see that ugly cushion that took up a large chunk of her wardrobe space every day for two years.

Two years she kept something that she didn’t really like!

I heard her admit to her brother that she actually realized she made a mistake the day after she made the purchase.

I scoffed.

She had to be lying.

Surely it couldn’t have taken her a full 24 hours to work that out.

My guess was: ten minutes tops.

I MADE A MISTAKE

So your challenge for today:

Get rid of whatever is your version of this ugly cushion from your life.

Admit you made a mistake, fix it and move on.
