Good Parents – 11 Secret Traits Of Great Moms

Want to know what makes good parents? Here are 11 traits of great moms who have close relationships with their kids.

Let’s chat about good parents.

I want to start by saying that it’s not always easy to be a great parent.

Most of us didn’t have the best examples to follow, and it’s definitely not a skill taught in school.

The reality is you either have to educate yourself or learn on the job.

While there are many parenting styles, successful parents DO share some attributes that give their children the best chance for success and happiness.

Now for the fun bit – while most parents have a few of these attributes, others will have to put in some time and effort to develop the others.

Want to know what the top 11 traits of a great parent are?

You don’t have to wait any longer!

GREAT PARENTS

Great parents share many attributes:

GREAT PARENTS

SKILL # 1 – Patience.

You knew this would be at the top of the list, right?

Children have a tendency to be messy, noisy, don’t listen well, and at times exasperating.

Yes I know they can be pretty wonderful, too.

But patience is essential.

Learning to take a deep breath and relax can help more than just your parenting skills.

It will help you retain your sanity too.

GREAT PARENTS

SKILL # 2 – Multi-tasking skills.

Dealing with the house, work, and children requires a great ability to multitask.

Children constantly pull your attention away from whatever you’re doing.

It’s not easy to regain your focus.

This is why multi-tasking skills are so important.

Sometimes life is a juggling act.

If you can find a way to keep a few balls in the air at the same time everything will feel like it is running more smoothly (as opposed to constantly dropping the ball a hundred times a day).

SKILL # 3 – Encouraging.

Children quickly learn to doubt themselves and worry about the opinions of others.

One of the best ways to combat this is to encourage your kids.

With enough encouragement, a child can become their best self.

Encourage your kids to try.

Inspire your kids to dream.

Encourage your kids to create.

Inspire your kids to do their best.

Encourage your kids to not be afraid to fail.

Inspire your kids to be themselves.

Encourage your kids every day.

GREAT PARENTS

SKILL # 4 – Supportive.

Encouragement and support go hand-in-hand.

Children with support grow up to be relaxed and comfortable.

Without support, the world can be a scary place.

Teach your child there’s little to fear. Teach them that you will always have their back, no matter what.

SKILL # 5 – Intelligence.

One of the hallmarks of intelligence is problem-solving.

Children provide a unique set of challenges that have to be solved.

This is where it helps to be able to deal with some of the challenges parents face.

A little brain power can help you to navigate the minefield that parenting can entail.

GREAT PARENTS

SKILL # 6 – Flexibility.

News alert: Many of your parenting attempts will fail.

You therefore must be flexible enough to have multiple solutions up your sleeve.

When one approach doesn’t work, you can always try something else.

In fact, you need to be WILLING to try something different.

Plans are always changing too.

It helps immensely if you can go with the flow.

SKILL # 7 – Good leadership skills.

You might be able to boss your kids around, but guess what?

They will probably resent it if you consistently do it from a dictator type position.

It’s much more effective to have good leadership skills as a parent and only throw your parental weight around when necessary.

Be a leader like a lighthouse that shines the path ahead for its followers.

GREAT PARENTS

SKILL # 8 – Dependability.

Kids feel safe when they have reliable and dependable parents.

They have to know that you’re there for them.

They have to know that you will do what you say you will do.

Take some time now to think about how reliable you are as a parent.

How much can your kids trust your word?

How reliable do your friends consider you to be?

Is this something you can work on?

SKILL # 9 – Compassion.

I cannot overstress the importance of compassion as a quality that one can nurture and develop in their kids.

Children are simply nicer, kinder human beings when they learn to develop and experience compassion towards themselves and others.

Kids need understanding and comforting.

They usually learn this through example.

Can you provide those two things?

GREAT PARENTS

SKILL # 10 – Sense of humor.

There is much to be said about having a great sense of humor in life.

It just feels better when you don’t take things so seriously!

We all know that your children will give you plenty of opportunities to laugh.

It would be a shame to allow those moments to go to waste.

Join in on the fun and when something is potentially funny, LAUGH!

Have a giggle and learn to look at things from the lighter rather than darker side of life.

You’ll keep your sanity if you have a great sense of humor.

SKILL # 11 – Self-awareness.

Guess what?

Children aren’t always sure how to act – even when you are implicitly told them what to do a few times.

They get confused.

Your kids get anxious.

They are worried they might get it wrong.

It’s up to you to be a role model.

You’ll find that kids react to situations in ways that mimic your reactions.

That’s because they don’t know any other way.

So how do you react when you are angry?

How do you react when you are tired or sad or stressed?

Pay attention to your actions because even if you aren’t noticing them, your children are!

It’s important to be self-aware enough to know whether you’re being a good role model.

Are you behaving in a way you would love your kids to behave?

If not, it might be time to slowly make some conscious changes.

In a nutshell, parenting is indeed one job that requires your utmost effort and attention.

Great kids most often have great parents.

Is that a coincidence?

Some might say it’s not.
