Limiting Beliefs Examples – 8 Beliefs That Can Ruin Your Life
Here are 8 limiting beliefs examples you need to be super aware. Why? Because holding onto them may sabotage your life.
Let’s have a chat today about limiting beliefs examples.
In case you haven’t already worked this out my friend, your beliefs and thoughts impact your decisions and actions.
In fact, your beliefs are one of the foundational constructs that determine the outcomes in your life.
So, it’s important to ask yourself if you have beliefs that support a mediocre life.
If so, you can expect your life to be mediocre.
It is much like trying to build a skyscraper on a foundation of shaky sand.
Ineffective beliefs can’t support an awesome life that pleases you, especially if the foundation isn’t solid.

Eliminate these beliefs from your mind and free yourself to build the life you desire:
LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
1 – It’s always been done that way.
Ah this might work for you if the way you have always done it has produced for you amazing results.
If it hasn’t, it might be time to rethink the way you do things.
In fact, when something has always been done a certain way, there’s likely to be another way that’s even better.
Just because something has been done a certain way for a long time doesn’t mean you should just accept it.
- For example, everyone used to walk. Then the wheel was invented, and wagons and carriages were developed. Cars and airplanes eventually followed.
- New things are always evolving. Just because we started with wagons and carriages didn’t mean there wasn’t a more effective way to do things in the future.

LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
2 – It’s not my fault. People with mediocre results in life make a habit of failing to take responsibility for their failures and misfortunes.
You will know if you are falling prey to this belief if you assume that everything is always someone else’s fault, such as:
- “My boss hates me – that’s why I can’t get ahead in my career.”
- “I had terrible parents – that’s why I have so much baggage and can’t get ahead in my head.”
- “I attract the wrong people – that’s why I suck when it comes to love and can’t get ahead or get traction with my relationships.”
- “I have bad luck – that’s why I can’t get ahead with my business ideas.”
- “I was born into an unfortunate situation – that’s why I am stuck living where I have always lived and doing what I have always done.”

Whether it’s your fault or not, the best policy is to take responsibility for your situation.
Own your circumstances.
Trust and own your own decisions.
Own your own pain.
It’s your only hope, because no one else is likely to save you.
Once you realize that the power lies in your hands you can actually then do something to make changes in your life.
LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
3 – It’s too late for me.
Ah this is one of the saddest phrases I can think of.
No, it is not too late for you to try.
Sure, things may look a little different for you if you are 30 and trying to revive your old dream of playing quarterback in the NFL.
But could you coach young players instead?
What could you do in the field you love?
- FYI: it’s rarely too late for certain things. You can still find love, start a business, go back to college, learn how to dance, or write a book.
-
It can become less convenient to do certain things beyond a certain age, but that doesn’t mean you should cross it off as an option altogether. Many things are still possible.

LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
4 – I can do it tomorrow.
Oooh I have to say these words are NOT my favorite ones to hear.
Mediocre minds often fool themselves into thinking that it’s okay to get started tomorrow, on Monday, the first of the month, or the first of the year.
Everything is always LATER rather than NOW.
- The truth is that time is running out for everyone. It’s just closer to running out for some than it is for others if you are a little old.
- If the average age that most of us live is 80 (conversative estimate) calculate now how many years have you got left on this planet. Procrastination kills your options and your future. So, just get started.
LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
5 – Comfort is more important than growth.
Few people consciously think this way, but many people live this way.
That’s because our brains are wired to seek comfort and safety.
If only staying comfortable produced great results!
Refusing to leave your comfort zone is a sure recipe to make little progress in life.
- Take a chance instead on building a more interesting and rewarding life. If you pursue comfort, you’re limiting your life.
LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
6 – It will be better to do this in the future.
Some of us fool ourselves into thinking we’ll do things in the future as a way of letting ourselves off the hook today.
We think that there will be time to patch up our relationship later.
We’ll have more time to spend with our loved ones someday.
We’ll go back to school in a few years.
- My friend, please know that there will never be a time that’s perfectly convenient. Just start doing it now.

LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
7 – Owning this thing will make me feel better.
Will it really?
Have you ever bought someone that you were so desperate to have only to discover it didn’t really change the way you feel inside?
Why do we buy things we don’t need?
It works something like this:
We imagine buying or owning something, and if it feels good, we’re likely to buy it if we can. Unfortunately, this is just a trap.
- You’ll likely never purchase anything that will make you feel better for more than a few days or a month. The one possible exception is buying something that you actually use regularly, such as a piano.
- You might love playing the piano, but you’ll never love just owning a piano – it’s how you put it to use, and even then, the novelty eventually wears off.

LIMITING BELIEFS EXAMPLES
8 – It’s okay to talk about others. Small minds talk about other people.
Ah I guess this one all depends on what you are SAYING about other people.
If it is gossipy, bitchy or negative this hurts you in several ways.
Firstly, it’s a waste of your time. Secondly it can come back to haunt you.
You also teach other people that you’re likely to talk about them at some point.
None of these are beneficial to your life.
- The smartest people like to talk about ideas.
- Talking about ideas will benefit you in more ways than you can imagine! Do this isn’t of mindlessly talking about other people in a negative way. It isn’t constructive. It isn’t useful. Nothing good ever comes out of it in the end.
So, there you go – 8 self-limiting beliefs you need to watch out for.
If you have some of these ineffective beliefs and they are limiting you and your life, now is the time to consider whether you could begin challenging those beliefs.
Instead, look to see how you can adopt beliefs that will serve your life rather than unnecessarily restrict it.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the way your life changes when you aim to ditch these 8 mediocre beliefs.
Much love and best of luck,
Frances xx
