Parenting Issues – How To Resolve Them With Ease

Dealing with big parenting issues? No worries! This post will show you how to deal with parenting issues with ease.

Let’s chat about parenting issues.

If you have visited this page thinking “OH I HAVE A MASSIVE PARENTING ISSUE THAT I’M DEALING WITH” I want to share with you some wise advice as a mom of a 19 year old and 16 year old.

Whatever you are facing isn’t as terrible or permanent as you think it is.

When I reflect back on my years as a parent, most of the parenting issues that I have faced are now long gone.

The toilet training issue.

The not sleeping enough issue.

The bad attitude issue.

PARENTING ISSUES

All of that is long gone and replaced by a more current “parenting issue”.

I say this not to dismiss your parenting issue.

I instead share these words with you so that you are reminded of the fact that you can get over ANYTHING.

You are stronger than you know.

And so much better-equipped to deal with anything that comes your way than you might currently realise.

So take a deep breath with me right now.

Everything will be okay.

And if it’s not okay yet, just trust that it will be okay one day in the future.

Even if your parenting issue FEELS overwhelming and looming (like mine did when my son was diagnosed at age 3 with a degenerative neuro-muscular condition that led to him using a wheelchair at age 6 and losing his ability to walk even short distances by age 12), you still do have the strength within to face those challenges with grace and an open heart and mind.

PARENTING ISSUES

I want you to put things into perspective.

Will this issue still be an issue for you in 100 years time?

Of course it won’t be.

Is there something you can do to deal with the challenge today?

Then take that action.

Is there nothing that can be done to change it?

Then accept that what’s done is done.

We are all given a different set of cards to play with in life and you get to decide HOW YOU WANT TO PLAY THOSE CARDS.

View your parenting issue as an opportunity for growth.

Trust your instincts.

Do what you feel called to do.

There are so many things that I used to think were a problem in my life that ended up not even being a “real problem.”

When people used to warn me not to let my newborn sleep on my chest when they were a baby…because I “SHOULD” be teaching them to sleep in their cot.

Not even a real problem.

I’m so glad I did it anyway.

PARENTING ISSUES

Do you believe me when I say both my kids eventually learned to sleep in their cot exactly when I was ready to teach them that skill?

(Yes sleeping in a cot, and learning to sleep according to whatever schedule you feel is best for your child is a SKILL that isn’t instinctive but that needs to be LEARNED.)

And when people said you should only give your kids X MINUTES of screen time and I let them go over or let them have the occasional FULL DAY of it because I needed the break.

I don’t regret it one bit.

They had some screen time and then they eventually learned to do without.

It wasn’t a real problem or issue in the grand scheme of things.

Medical diagnoses can be dealt with.

Sleeping or eating issues can be sorted.

Behavioral issues can be dealt with love and compassion, even though all of the above can FEEL SO HARD when we are going through it.

But you will survive.

You already have survived the hardest days of your life.

I want you to take this advice and use it to embrace whatever parenting issue you are currently facing.

PARENTING ISSUES

But please do it with the understanding that:

  • Children will change and grow in life (just ask any parent who has a teen – one day it does feel as if they magically change and mature overnight).

  • It’s also normal for kids to go through hard stuff in life. Why? Because they are a human having a human experience. They aren’t immune to challenges just because they are X years old.

  • And just like challenges have made you STRONGER they also make our kids stronger when they come out of the other side. This happens when they know they have your love and support NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH (and yes they will all have their own personal issues to deal with.

PARENTING ISSUES

Here’s what I do you do have control over when it comes to parenting issues:

You have control over how you show in life.

You have control over how to respond.

You can choose to show up with love and kindness NO MATTER WHAT THEIR PARENTING ISSUE IS.

PARENTING ISSUES

So how do YOU WANT to show up when a parenting issue pops up?

With anger and frustration?

With curiosity?

With love and compassion?

You really do get to decide.

And most importantly you can just decide:

I WILL WORK THIS OUT.

I WILL BE PART OF THE SOLUTION RATHER THAN THE PROBLEM.

I WILL BE STRONG AND OPEN-MINDED.

I CAN GET PAST THIS AND ANY FUTURE PARENTING CHALLENGE THAT COMES MY WAY.

That is the way you resolve parenting issues.

By believing you will and you can.

As always, much love from me and take care.

Much love,

Frances Vidakovic
