Achieving Excellence – Why Excellence Is Never An Accident

Interested in achieving excellence? Here’s how to achieve excellence with ease because excellence is NEVER an accident.

Let’s chat about achieving excellence.

I want to start by offering you the following quote:

“Excellence is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skilful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.”

The above anonymous quote was displayed prominently in an office, where, oddly enough, it seemed to attract very little attention.

But in actual fact there is so much wisdom contained in this one simple sentence.

Let me repeat it for you.

ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE TIPS

Excellence is never an accident.

It’s a result of:

  • Intention
  • Sincere effort
  • Smart direction
  • Skilful execution
  • And a vision
  • To see obstacles as opportunities.

It might help you understand this concept better if I share with you an analogy:

When embarking on a road trip, unless you have a lot of time and patience to waste, it’s essential to have a destination in mind and a map.

But most people in the world have no idea where they are heading or what their ultimate desired destination is.

Even worse, most people are living someone else’s agenda.

ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE TIPS

In other words, many people wander around aimlessly – much like a traveller without specific destination or map.

They forget that they get to choose.

You get to choose where you want to go my friend.

It would be valuable to look at the different areas of your life and ask yourself: “what is the intention here?”

Consider the areas of health, significant relationships, business and career, spiritual practice, finances, retirement, education and self-development.

Most people, by their own admission, are not living fully actualised lives and full potential.

Are you one of these people?

And can you see that one of the main causes of this is a lack of clear and focused intention and direction?

ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE TIPS

Here’s the thing: Without clear direction, “sincere effort” is impossible.

Effort becomes sincere when clear intention is established.

So, what are your intentions?

Why are you doing what you are doing?

Most people do things without thinking too much about the why behind their actions and as a result, they feel relatively un-inspired by the task.

You need to tap into the reason for your actions because sincere effort stems from high intention.

It flows naturally when the intention is clear.

Look at the areas of life where you are just “wasting time” or “waiting for the time to pass more quickly.”

This is a little sign that indicates insincere effort BUT herein lies an opportunity for you to create a more focused and clear intention.

Yep it’s the perfect opportunity my friend.

Consider:

What if the challenges being presented to you are there for a reason?

How could this be an opportunity for you to grow and show up as the best version of yourself?

What if it is a necessary stepping stone that you need to cross to get you to your ultimate goal?

I know it’s pretty simple to say “When given lemons, make lemonade” but most people who are successful have become adept at taking some perceived challenge and using it as an opportunity for benefit, value and profit.

You can do the same.

Each of these steps, when applied with intention and curiosity, can provide you with the chance to exude excellence.

After all, excellence is not being the best; it is doing your best.

Remember:

Excellence is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. John W. Gardner

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better. Pat Riley

Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude. Ralph Marston

True excellence takes sacrifice, mistakes, and enormous amounts of effort. Rafe Esquith

The secret of living a life of excellence is merely a matter of thinking thoughts of excellence. Really, it’s a matter of programming our minds with the kind of information that will set us free. Charles R. Swindoll
