Clear Mind – 10 Simple Activities To Quickly Clear Your Mind
Want to know how to have a clear mind? Here are 10 activities that will quickly clear your mind – try them today!
Let’s chat about how to have a clear mind…
Does your mind ever feel like it’s spinning with thoughts and feeling really cluttered?
If so, I feel your pain. One of the things that I’m more focused on attaining as I get older, is a calmer, clearer mind.
Because here’s the thing: even though our bodies get the rest it needs every night, our brains rarely do. Most of us have thoughts bouncing around in our heads all day (apparently 60,000 thoughts a day). Then at night we dream (finally our brains get a little break!).
Giving your brain a rest can obviously do wonders for your mental and physical health.
Unfortunately though, the natural state of your brain is to generate thoughts. This means the only way to intentionally clear it is to actively do something to make that happen.
Otherwise your brain will just continue to make noise if you try a more passive approach. And you don’t want that cantankerous noise running between your ears, right?
If you want a clearer head, consider implementing these tips to clear your mind and give it the rest it deserves:

1 – Meditation.
One of the main reasons for meditating is clearing the mind.
It’s when you just STOP and take a break and allow your mind the freedom to relax.
Meditation sounds pretty simple but in all honestly it can be deceptively challenging because we are so used to having brain chatter.
Meditation therefore challenges your mind and your body.
Just give it a go – start small, focusing on clearing your mind and bringing your focus back to your breath.
It’s not always easy to sit still for an extended period of time, but that’s part of the challenge.

2 – Exercise.
Strenuous exercise is a great way to clear your mind.
I mean, it’s hard to focus on crappy stuff when you are busy physically exerting your body.
There’s something about using your body and moving your limbs that stops the chatter going on between your ears.
Casual exercise like walking won’t work in most cases (I find I think even more than usual when I’m out walking).
This option requires you to exercise hard in order to really clear your mind of excess chatter.

3 – Walking.
Now I know I mentioned that I think more while I’m out walking.
But here’s how it’s a good thing:
I think more positive, uplifting and inspiring thoughts and really let go of the crappy stuff when I am out on a nice walk.
A nice walk, especially after dark or before sunrise can be very calming and reconnects you to nature if you are walking near trees or with view of the sun and sky.
Your brain is also busy moving your feet and maintaining your balance so if you are walking at a faster pace, it almost becomes meditative.
At least that’s my personal experience.

4 – Doing something exciting.
When you’re doing something super exciting, it’s funny how quickly your brain clears out all the crappy thoughts from your downstairs brain foyer.
Many people are actually attracted to extreme sports like BASE jumping because of the clearing effect it has on the brain.
Trust me (and I know this from personal experience as I have gone skydiving, parasailing etc. before) it’s seriously hard to focus on anything non-important when you are busy falling from the sky with a parachute to your back.
- Doing anything scary or intense can accomplish the same thing. What would you consider to be an intense activity? What would take your brain off the other stuff immediately if you did it? As long as it’s a safe and healthy option, test it out when you can.

5 – Mowing the grass.
A monotonous activity can also be helpful.
And for me, mowing the grass definitely falls into this category.
This list may also include driving in low traffic situations, taking a shower, or washing the dishes. You can train your mind to partially shut down, zone out and relax while it focuses on the one task at hand.

6 – Mindfulness.
Any activity can help to clear your mind if you focus fully on it.
I love, love, love, intentionally choosing to be mindful in life and throughout the day.
You too can experience a mind clearing effect while painting your nails, reading a book, or doing the laundry.
Focus on the one task at hand and nothing else to clear and calm your mind.

7 – Playing with a pet.
I have two dogs (I call them the Odd Couple as one is a King Charles Cavalier and the other is a Doberman) so this is right up my alley when it comes to clearing my mind strategies.
Pets are obviously so lovely and soothing to be around.
Sitting on the deck with your dog or curled up on the couch with your cat can be such a relaxing activity.
- There’s just something special about pets. They make few demands, show you the meaning of unconditional love and are always happy to be with you. If only people were so easy!

8 – Declutter.
Cleaning your home or workspace can also do wonders for the thoughts racing around in your head.
To me, it similar to being mindful as it forces you to focus on the task at hand. Plus, a clean and tidy space creates calm and serenity.
It just does… If you declutter mindfully, you’ll be getting twice the benefit.

9 – Make lists.
When you have a lot to do and you haven’t written any of it down, your brain is actually working overtime to keep everything straight.
That’s why I love getting my thoughts onto paper.
Using a simple list can empty out your brain.
You won’t believe how much this can help.
Lists can release a lot of resources that would be otherwise cluttering up your brain.

10 – Journal
The final strategy is really my favorite.
I find it works wonders with clearing the mind because you are literally emptying the contents of your brain onto paper.
Just let it all out.
I journal every day and my mind instantly feels clearer, lighter and more refreshed afterwards.
All in all, try to clear your mind at least once each day.
You’ll find over time that it will naturally calm down, but it takes time and practice.
CLEAR MIND – HOW TO CLEAR YOUR MIND
Our brains are thought-producing machines that can run wild if not managed.
In all honestly, clearing your mind is an active process, NOT PASSIVE.
You need to make the decision to do so and there are many ways to accomplish it well.
So, experiment and discover what works best for you.
When you set the intention to clear your mind daily, it is so much easier to see the results you are looking for.
Much love,
