Have A Great Day – 4 Steps To Having A Great Day Every Day
Want to have a great day EVERY DAY? The secret is simple – here are 4 steps to making each day super awesome and special.
Let’s chat about how to have a great day.
We often say to others “have a great day” but how often do you make sure to have a great day yourself?
Let me guess – it’s so easy to get caught up in the negativity of people around you, right? I want to reassure you that this is totally normal.
However if you implement the following four steps, you’ll find yourself having great days more often that will rub off on those around you.
Try these techniques to get you started:

HAVE A GREAT DAY
TIP 1 – Wake up with a smile on your face.
How many of us wake up and groan at the thought of the day ahead?
We seem to be under the impression that LIFE IS HARD.
I have so many things on my plate, you think.
Tomorrow morning I will try doing something different but today – it is a write off already.
If that is the case for you, consider the following tips:
- Set your alarm five minutes earlier than normal.
- As you wake up, luxuriate in the warmth and softness of your bed. You have a warm bed to sleep in – how lucky are you!
- Smile to yourself to set your inner mood. It is literally that easy – just smile!
- Before you get out of bed, think of five things you’re grateful for. Be very specific about the five things you appreciate in your life right now.

TIP 2 – Treat your chores as opportunities.
If your day seems to be an endless round of cleaning, cooking, shopping, and picking up the kids after school, escape the perceived drudgery and think of the good things that come from doing these chores.
- Your chores are a choice. You don’t just HAVE to do them. YOU GET TO DO THEM!
- Most of the time we actually WANT to get that chore done. We want to experience that feeling that comes when the task is complete.
- We love a clean house. We love having a sink clear of dirty dishes. We love having a freshly mopped floor.
- When you’re cleaning the house, play some loud music and dance as you go – you’ll get more exercise and have some fun while cleaning.
- Ask the children to help you prepare meals. You’ll enjoy quality time together and teach them something at the same time. It doesn’t have to be some boring chore you need to go through alone. You get to make it fun!
- When you’re shopping, have a friendly smile on your face. Avoid rushing around and take the time to thank the checkout operator for her time – she likes to feel appreciated too.
Everyone in this world just wants to be appreciated and SEEN. The same truth applies to your kids.
Talk with your children.
When you pick up your kids from school, start by asking them about their day.
I find that kids love to talk more when they are in the car with you.
And they’ll share more with you if you give them the opportunity to do so.
Listen to your kid’s answers – really listen to them.
Kids aren’t dumb.
They know when you’re distracted and not really paying attention to them.

TIP 3 – Use the STOP sign.
Anytime you feel yourself getting upset, anxious, or angry with people as you go through your day, flash a bright red or purple stop sign in your head.
Take that moment to take a deep breath, center yourself, before carrying on with your conversation.
You can stop that crappy feeling in its tracks by practicing this method.
You’ll also feel a lot less agitated before you get too far into your whining or complaining mood.
Remember you are in charge of your thoughts.
You get to choose the ones that serve you best.
Thankfully the people around you will also benefit from your ability to stop your negative thoughts from spinning or spiralling.

TIP 4 – Be nice.
This last step is so simple, yet so many people are too busy to put it into place.
It’s such simple advice to take on, isn’t it? SIMPLY BE NICE.
Being nice is as easy as smiling at a stranger in the street, the bus driver in the morning, saying “hello” to the person you buy your coffee from, or using the words “thank you” at least a half a dozen times a day.
We tell our kids all the time how important it is to be nice.
Now it’s time to practice what we preach.
- If you take the action to be nice, friendly, and caring, then your day will be so much better than if you run around feeling sorry for yourself, angry or upset.
FYI: None of these tips will cost you anything in terms of money or time.
BEING NICE IS FREE.
Isn’t life so much easier when you wear a smile rather than a frown on your face?
If you go on to share your happy mood with others, imagine what a wonderful gift it can be for those around you.
“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.”
If you start your day expecting to have a good one, you can be sure your day will blossom just as you do.
