How To Stop Hating Yourself – The First 6 Steps

Want to know how to stop hating yourself? Here are the first 6 steps to take to get you to self love ASAP.

Let’s chat about how to stop hating yourself.

I have to be honest with you – we all sometimes strongly dislike particularly parts of ourselves (if you don’t admit this is true, that is probably a little white lie!).

In fact, we’re great at picking ourselves apart and focusing on all the things we think we do wrong as opposed to do right in life.

HOW TO STOP HATING YOURSELF

In order to stop hating yourself, you need to focus more on your good qualities and dig deep to find the TRUTH about who you are and what you want out of life.

Once you do this, you can finally step out of that victim mentality mindset and stop blaming others for your challenges. Instead you can begin to take full ownership for your own thoughts, feelings, actions and results in life AND FINALLY BEGIN TO LOVE YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE.

My guess is that you are a pretty amazing person. You are unique and quirky and deep and perfectly worthy inside and out. The only issue is that you may not yet see this truth yourself.

Now I know – it’s not always easy to become your own biggest cheerleader. So many of us have more experience with criticising and berating ourselves instead. And we definitely don’t always have much practice getting to know ourselves – the vulnerable true self that lives deep inside us.

That’s why distractions like food, TV, and social media are so freaking popular. It’s easier to be constantly distracted than to face the truth. Most people don’t want to know the truth.

However, in order to stop hating yourself, you need to become more self-aware so you can capitalize on your strengths and work around your weaknesses to create a life that truly satisfies you.

Here’s how you can do exactly that and stop hating yourself:

HOW TO STOP HATING YOURSELF

TIP 1 – Know your goals

  • If you know your goals, it’s easier to determine how to spend your time in a way that will support those goals. You also learn about yourself by determining what your goals are.
  • If you can’t decide on any goals, ask yourself what part of your life needs the most work. Set a goal in that area of your life and stick with it. Your goals don’t need to be perfect. Just decide on one that will enhance your life in some way.

TIP 2 – Measure what’s important

  • Once you know your goals, it’s necessary to figure out what’s important and then measure those things. When you love yourself fully, you do things you love!
  • If you’re trying to lose weight, it would make sense to measure your body weight and caloric intake. You might decide to measure your carbohydrate intake and your exercise, too.
  • Suppose you’re trying to save money. It would be reasonable to measure your income, spending, and savings on a regular basis.
  • If you want to write a novel, you could measure how many pages you write each day and how many hours you spend writing.

TIP 3 – Journal your activity each day

  • How did you spend your day? Once you know your goals and the relevant activities, measure the quality of your days. Each hour, write down how you spend that hour.
  • A journal entry might look like: “6:00-7:00 PM: 20 minutes watching TV. 20 minutes exercising. 20 minutes working on my website.
  • You might be surprised to discover how little time you’re actually working toward your goals. Total up the amount of time that you were actually doing something productive. Be honest!
  • Many of us believe that we’re working hard. However, we’re often busy doing things that don’t affect what matters most to us.

TIP 4 –  Try to view yourself as others view you

  • This is extremely challenging. Few of us have an accurate idea of how others view us. Most of us don’t even have the thick skin to hear and consume the truth.
  • I recommend that you ask your friends and family for their honest opinion. Be prepared to hear the worst but still ask them to be honest. You don’t need to hear more polite lies.
  • Think about conversations you’ve had. Imagine someone else said the same things you said. What would you think about them?
  • Think about how you handle common situations. Think about how you behave when you’re grumpy, tired, stuck in traffic, excited, and so on. Imagine someone else behaving that way. What would you think of them? To love yourself more, you have to embrace all of the aspects of yourself – the good, the bad and the things that are more difficult to face and YOU GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE TO BE A TOTALLY NORMAL HUMAN.

TIP 5 – Determine your greatest flaws

  • Take some time and determine what your greatest flaws are. What are you not good at? In what situations do you struggle? What are your weak points?

  • Now ask yourself – how can these weaknesses also be a strength? NO this is not a trick question! If you are gullible, this could be seen as a weakness but it also means you have belief in others. If you are a dreamer, then your flaws might be that you don’t take enough action but you still hold belief that anything is possible.

TIP 6 – Ask your friends for insight

  • Ask your friends for advice. Tell them that you want to become more self-aware. Ask them to describe you, your strengths, and your weaknesses. They will be hesitant to be completely honest. Do your best to convince them that you’ll be grateful for their honesty.

In the end, our actions are what make us. Self-awareness is available to all, even if you don’t love yourself fully right now but only a few will choose to pursue it, especially when you decide to stop hating on yourself.

HOW TO STOP HATING YOURSELF

You need to know that when you know yourself well, it becomes easier to succeed and be happy in life (whatever that means to you).

Knowledge is power but it is only powerful when you ACTION that knowledge. When you know the truth, you can maneuver around your weaknesses.

You can take full-advantage of your strengths. You learn how to manage yourself and understand what makes you tick.

So tell me my friend, are you brave enough to become more self-aware and love yourself more from hereon? I have no doubt that you are…Remember the goal – be open and honest and stop hating on yourself when the option is always, always there to love yourself more.
