I DREAMED A DREAM

I Dreamed A Dream – Why I Keep Listening To This Song

Here’s why I keep listening to the song I Dreamed A Dream on repeat – it will make you go out and chase your dreams today.

Let’s chat about the song I Dreamed A Dream.

I keep listening to THIS SONG on repeat and I still can’t make it to the end of the song without tearing up. For those who don’t have the Spotify app and can’t open the link it’s the song called I Dreamed A Dream by Patti LuPone (the original Les Miserables soundtrack).

The lyrics are as follows:

There was a time when men were kindWhen their voices were softAnd their words invitingThere was a time when love was blindAnd the world was a songAnd the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong
I dreamed a dream in times gone byWhen hope was high and life worth livingI dreamed, that love would never dieI dreamed that God would be forgivingThen I was young and unafraidAnd dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paidNo song unsung, no wine untasted
But the tigers come at nightWith their voices soft as thunderAs they tear your hope apartAs they turn your dream to shameHe slept a summer by my sideHe filled my days with endless wonderHe took my childhood in his strideBut he was gone when autumn came
And still I dream he’ll come to meThat we will live the years togetherBut there are dreams that cannot beAnd there are storms we cannot weatherI had a dream my life would beSo different from this hell I’m livingSo different now from what it seemedNow life has killed the dreamI dreamed

I DREAMED A DREAM

So here’s a little back story:

I actually only heard this song for the first time when Susan Boyle sang it on Britain’s Got Talent back in 2012 and I remember it sent shivers down my spine because at that point in time I felt like life had killed the dream I had dreamed.

Once again the lyrics at the end of the song are as follows:

There are dreams that cannot be

And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be

So different from this hell I’m living

So different now from what it seemed

Now life has killed my dream I dreamed.

I DREAMED A DREAM

For the record, back in 2012 my life was far from hell BUT my writing dreams felt so far from reach.

Back then I genuinely felt like it was a dream that was slowly dying if I didn’t do something to save it.

I still was driving one hour to work every day (to a nice job in the fanciest suburb in Sydney but still….ONE HOUR COMMUTE EACH WAY!)

So when I heard the song randomly this morning I was so proud of how far I had come…

To have my own business.

To be able to work from home.

To write and coach and create courses for a living.

That’s my dream.

I dreamed a dream and I didn’t wait for life to hand it over to me.

I made it happen.

I DREAMED A DREAM

My question to you is this:

Do you also have a dream that is slowly dying (like mine was all those years ago)?

If so, is it worth trying to save?

Confession: part of the reason I tear up every time I hear the song I DREAMED A DREAM now is because it breaks my heart to think of all the broken dreams in the world.  Broken dreams = broken hearts.

I DREAMED A DREAM

I really do feel like we owe it to ourselves to at least try.

To do our best to breathe some hope back into our broken dreams and GIVE OURSELVES A CHANCE while we are still so blessed to be here on this Earth.

We aren’t here forever remember.

If you would like to share your dream with me, I would be honored to hear it.

Simply send me a message.

Much love,

Frances xx
