Living In The Present – 4 Ways To Be More Present Now

Want to begin living in the present? Here are 4 super simple ways to turn your attention to the present moment.

Let’s have a quick chat about living in the present.

Even though we all know that we should be more present, it is sometimes feels difficult to do because of our hectic schedules.

But a hectic schedule is the best sign that more mindfulness is what you need in your day.

Learning how to incorporate mindfulness into your busy schedule is a great way to prioritize your mental health without adding any more tasks to your day.

Remember LESS IS USUALLY MORE. Here are the top 4 ways to incorporate mindfulness and begin living in the present (even when your days are super busy).

LIVING IN THE PRESENT

1 – Keep the Phone Off When You Wake Up:

Whenever you first wake up, it can be tempting to pull out your phone and scroll through social media.

I want you to fight this urge and try to keep the phone off the first 15 to 30 minutes you are awake in the morning.

The best way you can do this is to keep your phone out of reach and keep something else instead WITHIN YOUR REACH.

For me, it is always having a great book on my bedside stand.

I find that by starting the day with some reading is the easiest way to start the day in a more peaceful and mindful way.

It also helps set the stage for a mindful day because I haven’t already lost or wasted my precious time doing something that doesn’t fill my soul. Whereas reading definitely helps me fill me cup.

This mindfulness technique is awesome for those with no spare time because it literally takes up zero additional minutes of your day to put your phone away.

You just go about your morning as you normally would without wasting your first hour getting lost down a rabbit hole on your phone.

2 – Be Mindful on the Way to Work:

Much of our lives are spent commuting to and from work.

This also used to be me before I started working for myself from home. It used to take me ONE FULL HOUR to get to work and then again, another hour to drive back home.

This might feel like a massive waste of your time (2 hours gone – just like that!). But did you know you have the option of making the most of this time by being mindful on your commute.

Whether you drive, take a bus, or carpool, consider this as an opportunity to connect to yourself and reflect on your present feelings and thoughts.

You can use this time to think, to listen to relaxing meditative music, listen to an actual meditation. Or even connect with a podcast that makes you reflect on your true purpose in life.

If you take these types of mindful actions during your commutes, you may find that this time feels well-spent and your stress begins to melt away more with more ease.

3 – Practice Mindfulness in Line:

Every time you go for coffee, need groceries, or talk to a company representative, you have to wait in line.

That can be pretty annoying and frustrating right?

Maybe yes unless you are consciously choosing to be mindful during these moments.

I want you to use this time to check in with how you are feeling.

What are you seeing?

What are you hearing?

What are you smelling?

Questions like these will ground you in the present moment and make this time fly by faster as you improve your mindfulness abilities.

4 – Use Breaks for Mindfulness:

Throughout the day, there’s a good chance that you take a couple of breaks.

Now, if you’re like most people, you probably use those breaks to look at your phone or do tasks that don’t really matter.

You can however make the most of these downtimes by practicing mindfulness instead.

Be mindful of your thoughts.

Be mindful of your words.

Be mindful of your actions.

Be mindful of your goals.

This will allow you to maximize your time and feel calmer and less stressed throughout your day.

2 – Be mindful on your way to work (or while you are doing errands and/or non-exciting chores)

By practicing mindfulness consistently throughout your day, you’re more likely to feel energized and present more often.

Better yet, it will improve your ability to stay calm and focused when you find yourself in the middle of what feels like a storm.
