Mental Wellness – 5 Secrets To Staying Emotionally Healthy

Want to know the secret to mental wellness? Here are 5 best secrets to taking care of both YOU and your mental health.

Let’s chat about mental wellness.

In case you haven’t worked it out yet, your emotions have a strong influence on your state of mind.

This means that to keep your state of mind at peace, it’s necessary to maintain emotional balance.

People often speak about the importance of caring for your body but it’s just as important as caring for your mind.

Indeed the two are intertwined, and you can’t have one without the other.

Thankfully you can do a lot to enhance your emotional well-being, so when challenging times come around, you’ll be more prepared to handle them!

Here are some strategies to help you manage your emotions effectively:

MENTAL WELLNESS

MENTAL WELLNESS

TIP 1 – Identify your support system.

It’s super normal to experience emotional dips in life.

This is especially true when you’re making emotionally charged decisions.

However it can be tough to think you need to deal with everything on your own.

Most of the time this isn’t even true; you DON’T NEED to do it on your own.

Do what you can to identify friends or family members who can be the voice of reason.

When your emotions are cross-wired or frazzled, it helps to have an external voice guiding you towards (what you feel would be) the right decision.

It’s healthy – in fact encouraged – to discuss whatever is on your mind with members of your support system (family, friends, BFFs – whoever you can turn to and trust).

They may also help you see things in a different light.

MENTAL WELLNESS

TIP 2 – Confront your emotions.

I know this is a weird tip but I recommend that you DON’T AVOID facing your negative feelings.

Why?

Because facing your emotions is the best way to overcome them.

I mean, if they are there you may as well say hello and get to know them, rather than stuffing them into a corner and pretending they don’t exist.

The more you practice this – facing your emotions – the easier it will become to stay calm during emotional circumstances.

MENTAL WELLNESS

Ask yourself now – what specific feelings are you experiencing?

What made these feelings come up for you?

Is there some cleansing that comes from feeling these emotions?

Are they something to be afraid of or could you come to accept that this is how you feel right now and IT’S OKAY?

Can you see how it’s easier to deal with emotions once you acknowledge them and understand why they are there?

Just an example to better explain this idea:

If you’re heartbroken, it isn’t particular healthy to try and pretend otherwise.

I mean, you are sad and that’s okay.

You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t FEEL something after losing a love.

Allow the reactions to come.

If you feel like crying or screaming, go ahead.

MENTAL WELLNESS

It will help you gain closure and a fuller understanding of your feelings.

It isn’t necessary to delve in too deep about why you’re feeling a certain way (that is, you don’t have to go back and investigate your childhood or anything like that).

Simply identify the source of the emotion and work at confronting it instead.

Avoid apologizing for your emotions – humans are supposed to feel emotional at times.

MENTAL WELLNESS

TIP 3 – Celebrate your strengths.

There’s no better way to build and strengthen your emotional well-being than by celebrating your strengths.

Take the time to identify your attributes, talents, and skills that make you feel confident and strong.

Remind yourself of how resilient and powerful you really are (there’s no denying it, you are!)

Many people like to downplay their strengths, but now is not the time to be humble.

MENTAL WELLNESS

Be proud of what makes you special.

This is part of what makes you YOU.

Openly acknowledging your strengths will sub-consciously help you believe in yourself.

In turn, you will develop a more sound emotional state.

TIP 4 – Provide support to others.

Remember how it’s important to ask for support from others?

The same truth applies with helping out your own support team.

Exposing yourself to the emotions of others will help you to process your own better.

When it comes to other people’s emotions, we tend to take things for face value.

We find it easier to be impartial, fair, and just.

  • When you support others, you’re also required to be truthful and honest.

  • Being honest about someone else’s emotions can help you develop the same honesty about your own.

  • Helping others work through challenges can also make you appreciate the vast range of your own emotions and build up your own emotional well-being.

TIP 5 – Keep your surroundings positive.

Maintaining a positive environment is super important.

It will help you concentrate more on positive thought, positive emotions and positive resolutions which will aid in the healing process.

It’s much easier to effectively manage your emotions when you’re surrounded by positive energy.

Participate in activities you enjoy.

This isn’t an effort to dismiss your emotions.

It’s simply a tool for developing a positive mindset.

MENTAL WELLNESS

That same positive mindset will reinforce your ability to be impartial and fair.

It’s tempting to be hard on yourself, especially when you’re surrounded by negative influences, but you always have the option to be KINDER to yourself.

Remember that you have your emotions for a reason!

They are there to help you process experiences and help you empathize with others going through similar situations.

They also give you hope so use these tips to enhance your emotional well-being today.

You’ll be so glad you did!
