Self Care Ideas – 5 Activities To Nurture Your Mental Health
Want the best self care ideas? Here are the best 5 self care activity ideas that will make you mentally strong.
Let’s chat about self care ideas…
If you’re looking for simple self care ideas to keep you in a happy place mentally and physically, here’s the good news: you just might have everything that you need right inside your home.
In fact there are many ways we can increase our happiness right within our own home.
Here’s how you can take care of yourself with these simple indoor self care ideas:
SELF CARE IDEAS
TIP # 1 – Read a good book.
Take some advice from a book-obsessed gal: a good book can honestly transform your thoughts into another world.
For me a book is the PERFECT escape and when you find a book that has you hooked from the very first page, you can be sure it’s a special read!
- Start by allow yourself the TIME to take a break and read. Sometimes we just need to stop and take a break and allow our minds to wander into another world we never knew existed.
- Pro-tip: look for books on Amazon with a 4-5 star review in order to choose a read with the best escape potential.
- Even better: join a book-club if you can. I have been with mine for over 10 years and I love always having a great book to read and discuss with friends afterwards.
- Our best recent book-club picks so far include: AMERICAN DIRT by Jeanine Cummins, WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING by Delia Owens, A NEARLY NORMAL FAMILY by M.T Edvardsson and WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR by Paul Kalanithi (these were loved by all 12 members of our book-club within the last year).

TIP # 2 – Play a game.
Have I mentioned before that I am also obsessed with games?
Card games and board games are so much fun when you MAKE THE TIME to enjoy them.
Yep you need to actually pull out those games from the cupboard instead of ignoring them all the time.
Why?
Well because it’s a) such a great way to unwind and b) it has the added benefit of connecting with others at the same time (Rummikub is my all-time favorite game to play with my kids!).
- Remember though games are supposed to be fun, not stressful!
- Avoid turning the game into something overly competitive. From experience this sort of takes the joy out of the game and instead just causes tempers and tensions to flare.

TIP # 3 – Find a fun hobby you can do.
I think it’s important to find time for the things that make you feel happy to be alive.
As such, consider finding a new hobby that you love as it will stimulate your brain and relax you at the same time (making it a perfect self-care activity).
-
FYI: The time that you spend on this hobby is time that you’re dedicating just for you!
- You deserve to do something fun. You deserve to have a break. You deserve to take care of yourself.
- Some examples of indoor or home hobbies include: cooking and baking, gardening, reading and writing, drawing, painting, doing puzzles, scrapbooking and craft, video games, photography, knitting, sewing, collecting things, singing and dancing (to name just a few!)
- If you choose a hobby in which you create things, you’ll also raise your self-esteem when you admire the items that you create. Hobbies help build our confidence when we are good at what we enjoy doing.

TIP # 4 – Binge on your favorite show.
Yep sometimes all we need to do to relax is binge-watch a new fabulous Netflix series.
I am sure we all temporarily got our minds off the pandemic when Tiger King came out.
Even though this doesn’t mean we should watch TV day in and day out, there is absolutely nothing wrong with chilling out this way when our brains need some downtime.

TIP # 5 – Bake some goodies.
Do you consider yourself to be a foodie?
If so, baking could be the perfect indoor activity for you to take on when you need to relax.
Put on some great music, bake away and in the end you will have some yummy treats to enjoy!
(Word of warning here: obviously having a well-balanced diet is important for your overall mental and physical, health – everything in moderation!)
So just to sum this up, I want you to know that self-care IS possible inside your own home.
If you aren’t the biggest fan of the above 5 suggestions I want you to brainstorm some more ideas on what you can do to relax at home.
Keep digging until you find the answer to that question.
Remember your home should be your safe haven, even during times of uncertainty and chaos.
Resist the urge to think that self-care can only take place outside of your home.
It’s important to know what you CAN do to relax and take care of yourself at home.
Maybe it’s having a warm bath.
Or snuggling with a family member or pet.
I personally love journaling and do it every single day.
How can you take care of yourself at home?
What do you need from yourself to unwind and relax?
The easiest way to achieve self-care is to do some of the things that you love.
With a little effort, this is possible to be achieved at home.
