Taking Action – The Real Cost Of NOT Taking Action
Let’s talk about the cost of not taking action. Did you know that not taking action often COSTS YOU WAY MORE? Here’s why…
Let’s chat about the cost of not taking action.
You will know that I speak often about the fact that anyone can dream a dream, dreaming costs you nothing and anyone can do it for free.
But to actually achieve a dream, to bring it to life, to make it happen, there will be a cost attached to your dreams and the price you pay will often be hard work and energy or what might feel at times to be blood, sweat and tears.

TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
Today I want to discuss what the cost is for you WHEN YOU CHOOSE NOT TO TAKE ACTION. Now this may be a difficult concept for many of you to take on board because you feel like you’re winning in life when you are saving money and saying no to purchases.
You might not consider the fact that you could be losing out in any way when you refrain from making a purchase which is actually an investment in yourself and your personal growth or evolution in this world.
Let me use the example of paying for a gym membership which is probably the easiest way to explain what I mean. Even though I have belonged to the gym I’m at for almost two years and I absolutely love paying them for this privilege, I spend many, many years opting not to join the gym for various reasons.
Some of these reasons included: it’s just a waste of money when I actually exercise at home, I don’t need to belong to the gym to get fit, it’s 100% free for me to go for walks or I can take advantage of the free classes on YouTube etc etc.

TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
But guess what would inevitably happen after I rationalised why I didn’t need to belong to a gym? I wouldn’t go for those walks, I definitely never put on a YouTube video and did a yoga or step class from the comfort of my home EVEN THOUGH IT WAS FREE.
There was never a moment where it crossed my mind during the day to think that “oooh yes, I would love nothing more than to find an old Denise Austen video and do some exercise right now.”
I’m secretly giggling here because if you are my age and you grew up in Australia Denise Austen was someone who our moms loved to work out too and every single morning at 6:30am the TV would play an exercise class of hers for 30 straight minutes, no commercials included.
The main point here is that I didn’t want to spend any money on a gym membership mainly because I thought I could exercise from home instead and/or that it was too expensive.
Except surprise surprise, I never actually ended up exercising from home and even though I didn’t think I had the money to invest in my health, I did somehow manage to find money to spend on chocolate or crappy food which let’s be honest here COST WAY MORE THAN what my fortnightly gym membership fee would have been.
TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
If I think about the price I paid for NOT JOINING THE GYM, I paid for it in weight gain, because the pounds slowly started to pile on me when I was doing zero exercise for so long. I paid for it by feeling crap, because I wasn’t moving my body enough.
I paid for it in the form of crappy sleep, because my body wasn’t naturally physically exhausted by the end of each day and so it was harder for me to fall asleep.
I also paid for it with negative mind chatter, because I spend a lot of time, way too much time, thinking how I should be exercising more, how I was being lazy, and believe me when I say that even though the fitness experts recommend 30 minutes of exercise each day.
Even though I never made the time to just exercise for this amount of time I somehow managed to spend twice this amount THINKING about how I was failing in this area of my life, beating myself up for my flabby body, wanting to and knowing I needed to exercise but doing zero action to make this happen.
So yes, I was saving myself $40 per fortnight by not going to the gym but there was something I lost out by not making that investment in my health and really, let’s be honest, the cost of this inaction far exceeded me just handing over the $40 for the gym.
TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
Before I share with you how our stalling on making investments in our life negatively impacts us, I want to say that the reason why making investments in ourselves is so important.
The moment you hand over money for any service, product or courses there is an energetic exchange that takes place in that moment. In that moment you are announcing to the world that yes, I am serious, yes I’m now invested in this progress and I’m committed to creating an outcome.

Inside my own business I offer so many valuable freebies in the form of challenges and PDFs and printables and as much as it feels like a privilege to be able to offer you this value at no cost, I’m fully aware that we don’t always value the things we receive for free in the same way we do when we part with our hard-earned money, when we put our skin in the game.
Right now I could potentially offer someone one of my signature programs like The Magic Wand which is a self-study course that replicates my entire life coaching framework for free.
But there’s a good chance that you may not value that course in the same way as someone you has paid the actual cost of the course, who has shifted things in their finances to make that investment, who is now determined to get 150% of their investments back as soon as possible.
TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
The way this student listens to the lessons, studies the materials, implements the ideas is different from someone who has received access to it for free. And I have seen this happen in my own life.
I absolutely LOVE investing in myself and the more money I invest in a course the more I take it seriously. Whereas courses I have gained access to via bundles and so forth…
I am absolutely not discounting their fabulousness but there’s an air of not appreciating something as much when I have invested zero dollars into the purchase.
But when we buy something ourselves and pay a good amount of money for it we appreciate and value that thing so much more. Think about any expensive dresses or bags you may have bought. We often value those items more than the free or cheaper ones.

TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
We take care of them, we feel good when we wear them, we don’t throw them onto the floor when we are done with wearing or using them. We paid good money for it and it’s the actual energetic exchange we made that makes the item valuable – not the item itself.
Does that make sense? Can you see how if I gifted you with a $200 bag you may feel a little differently about it versus if you actually paid for it yourself with your own money.
Sure you may still love the bag but you didn’t go out there and choose it for yourself, you didn’t make a decision to withdraw $200 from the bank for it…I know whenever I do a declutter in my home, and especially from my wardrobe the first things to go are usually things I received for free that I have no emotionally attached to, even if they were expensive.
TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
This explains why we value things more when we have paid for it ourselves and with that being said, I want to bring this back to making investments in ourselves in the realm of personal growth and how saying no to these investments, when we deep down know they would positively transform our life, there’s a cost attached to that.
For example when it comes to private 1:1 coaching, there’s a higher price tag attached to this and people often feel tempted to think “ooooh I could never invest that much in myself?” but the question to ask yourself here is: what’s the cost of not taking action, of not investing in yourself.

I know when I was deciding whether to take on my first life coach over 20 years ago, even though the money sort of scared me and back then it was $1500 for 3 months, I knew that the cost of not taking the leap was staying stuck, producing the same old results with the same old thinking, not moving forward in life.
I knew I HAD TO DO IT. I had to find the money for this investment because the pain of staying stuck was much, more worse than the pain of investing in something new, something exciting but at the same time sort of scary because it was an unknown for me.
TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
I am so, so, so, glad that I did it because making that first investment into coaching changed who I was as a person. It taught me the power of accountability, the power of taking responsibility in my life, the power that comes from taking action towards your life.
I encourage you to be open to investing in yourself and your personal growth. If you say you want to change something, be willing to put your money where your mouth is. Follow through on your promises to yourself. Do what you can to change your perspective and mindset because when you change your perspective and mindset first, you change your results in life. This is how real, sustainable transformation happens.
In terms of how I can help support you in changing your life, I do offer private 1:1 coaching but in addition to that I also have so many super affordable courses and bundles that teach you how to better manage your time, how to better manage your mind.

TAKING ACTION – THE REAL COST OF NOT TAKING ACTION
I also teach you how to show up as the best version of yourself every day, how to make your life feel easy and how to make your kid’s life feel easier too, how to be a better parent and how to finally achieve your goals using my specific 12 week coaching framework and so much more.
Start with a small investment in yourself, do it because you are worth it. Do it because the cost of not taking action is way more expensive than the money you impart to learn the skills and strategies that have the potential to change your life.
