Trust In Yourself – Jump And The Net Will Appear

Want to have more trust in yourself? Here’s how to have enough trust that you can jump and trust that the net will appear.

 

 

Let’s chat about having more trust in yourself so that when you jump, you have faith that the net will appear. 

Have you ever heard the quote by Andre Gide who so wisely said: man cannot discover new oceans unless he has courage to lose sight of the shore.

In other words, we must be willing to let go of the life that we have planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

Now I know what you’re thinking.

But it’s scary!

 

It feels super safe, doesn’t it, to keep one hand on a sturdy rope rather than letting it go and setting yourself free, as you float away from your security base?

 

But here’s the thing: you NEED to cut those nice sturdy ropes if you want to dramatically increase your chances of success.

One of the keys to reaching your goals is to eliminate any escape routes.

 

Want to know why?

 

It’s because it’s tempting to retreat to safety and comfort the moment that challenges and difficulties arise.

To avoid turning around and abandoning your goals, you must make going forward more compelling than going back at the first sign of distress.

So how do you do this? Make it more compelling?

 

Well, when you’re striving towards a goal, you need to a) focus on what you want to obtain in the future and b) avoid the impulse to go back to what you know and to what is comfortable.

 

To illustrate how this is done, take note of the following story:

 

When Spanish Conquistador Hernando Cortez landed in Mexico, one of his first orders to his men was to burn the ships.

Cortez was committed to his mission and did not want to allow himself or his men the option of going back to Spain.

By removing this option, Cortez and his men were forced to focus on how they could make the mission successful.

You can apply the same concept to your own life.

 

By eliminating an escape route this creates a compelling reason for you to focus on your goal alone and to keep moving forward.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that although Cortez had his men burn the ships, he did not have them burn the food and supplies and everything else.

Cutting off an escape route to increase motivation and create the desire to press on where you might otherwise give up is totally different from throwing caution to the wind and taking undue unwarranted risks.

Remember reaching your goals still requires prudent planning and managing. Sure, all goals contain a certain degree of risk, but it isn’t necessary to create reckless risks and stress by not properly planning and thus lacking the necessary tools and supplies to achieve your goal.

 

You need to be willing to bet on yourself and take some risks, but there’s no need to be careless and simply hope that fingers crossed everything will be okay.

So that being said, before you decide to burn your ships, make sure you have the supplies and tools necessary to achieve the goal you are after.

Quitting your job might sound like a good way to close the escape route, but it might help to have a little buffer or nest egg in advance if you don’t have resources to carry you through.

You can do this by creating a savings account that allows you to minimise the risk of leaving your current job without putting too much pressure on your new dream to support you straight away.

So, consider closing off the escape routes when it comes to chasing your goals.

 

This will keep you looking forward rather than constantly looking backwards or sideways on your journey.

Staying focused on ONE PATH that is FORWARD will also make sure that you have a compelling reason to move forward.

 

Are you ready to cut the rope my friend?

 

Before you do, make sure that you plan for the risk and have the tools, supplies and resources you need to achieve your goals.

But once you have ticked those boxes, you can pull out the scissors and snip!

Of course, you can’t totally eliminate risk (because taking calculated risks is a part of success) but you can plan for it.

Don’t just jump in without thinking through the process and having a solid plan for moving forward.

Have some faith in yourself.
