List Of Good Habits – 9 Healthy Habits To Start Today

Looking for a list of good habits? Here are the 9 best healthy habits that you should consider embracing today!

Let’s chat about a list of good habits.

Are you confused about coming up with the best list of good habits?

When it comes to living a healthy life, small habits can definitely add up to something more significant over time.

This can go both ways – for both positive and negative habits.

Just as healthy habits can strengthen your health, unhealthy habits can weaken you and make you more vulnerable to disease.

But today we want to have a chat about HEALTHY habits you can embrace.

Consider developing these healthy habits. Over time, they can make a massive, positive difference to your overall health:

LIST OF GOOD HABITS

1 – Use the stairs.

Whether you are at home or in the office, use the stairs as much as you can.

This is such a simple way to do exercise.

Avoid using the elevator or escalator if possible and you’ll notice that both your legs and heart will tone and strengthen over time.

2 – Drink an extra glass of water daily.

Water is incredibly important for good health.

How much water are you drinking a day?

Here in Oz, I try to drink 2 liters of water a day if possible.

If you aren’t there yet just know that you can slowly work towards this amount.

Little by little, you can cut out soft drinks and replace them with water.

  • Not only is water free of any calories, but also helps to keep your temperature at a normal level, it lubricates and cushions your joints, and protects your spinal cord. It also helps to remove waste via urination, sweat, and your bowel movements.

3 – Go for a daily walk.

Going for a daily walk is another healthy form of low-impact exercise.

Plus, it’s good to get some fresh air too, as it can help clear your mind of stress.

This is my main form of exercise at the time as my two dogs need to be walked (Doberman and King Charles Cavalier).

4 – Sit up straight.

Another simple habit to embrace is simply to sit taller.

I remember a physio once told me that if you did just these three things each day – SIT TALL, STAND TALL and WALK TALL – you would already be on your way to having a healthier body.

That’s because good posture can help prevent aches and pains, while also reducing stress on your ligaments.

If you find yourself forgetting to sit upright, leave a note for yourself, and it will soon become an unconscious habit.

5 – Get more sleep.

If you aren’t getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night, you may find yourself feeling lethargic the following day.

I know that was the case for me.

For years I only slept 6 hours a night and eventually it caught up with me and I became a walking zombie.

Over time, many of your systems can be negatively affected by lack of sleep – it really starts to show up in negative ways in your life.

  • You’re likely to begin craving unhealthy foods too. Lack of sleep causes the hormones that control your hunger to become disrupted, leading to these crappy food cravings (not a good side effect of a lack of sleep!).

6 – Eat a healthy breakfast every morning.

It is often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this is true.

It’s like that saying goes – eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a pauper.

If you eat something rich in fiber and something full of protein, you will feel satiated for a while.

This is because they can both fill you up and keep you full until lunchtime, helping to avoid those mid-morning cravings.

  • Fiber and protein both have additional long-term health benefits. For example, fiber is good for your digestion, while protein helps to maintain your muscles.

7 – Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables.

This tip is obvious but so many of us are slackasses when it comes to eating our fruits and vegs.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in various nutrients that your body needs for good health.

Add at least 2 vegetables to each meal and opt for some fruit when you want a snack.

If you can’t get them fresh, frozen is your next best alternative (these are perfect to add to smoothie).

8 – Balance on one leg.

Stand on one leg for 10 seconds before switching to the other leg.

This is a seriously simple exercise that can become part of your neuromotor training.

It can help improve your balance, agility, and mobility.

9 – Weigh yourself each week.

I know this is a weird habit to recommend but it’s important to casually check in once a week to make sure that the kilos are secretly sneaking up on you.

Make a note of your weight on a particular day.

Then weigh yourself on the same day the following week and each week thereafter.

Since weight tends to fluctuate daily, a weekly weigh-in will help you keep better track of your weight.

This is important to do only if your weight is of concern to you.

LIST OF GOOD HABITS

All in all, these healthy habits are easy to develop and implement in your life.

I didn’t add anything too tricky or complicated here.

To start, just add one or two.

Once those activities become habits, add in another couple.

This is what we call habit stacking.

Before you know it, you’ll start to feel healthier, with energy to spare (which is what we all want, right?).
