Chores To Do Around The House – 10 Reasons Why Kids Need It
Want to know why kids need to do chores around the house? Keep these 10 reasons in mind when delegating chores to kids.
Let’s chat about chores around the house.
The chores of the house are things most kids don’t get excited about.
Chances are when your kids hear the word CHORES they want to run away but resist the urge to stop recommending them to be done.
If you have children, you know the deep, abiding bond that develops between parents and kids.
Because you love them, you want them to be happy.
But being happy doesn’t mean always allowing them to get their own way or ditch any chores that need to be done.
It’s a bit of a parenting conundrum that often arises when kids complain about their assigned tasks but you know it’s in their best interests to do the chores assigned to them.
Here’s the thing: Most child and family experts believe that requiring your children to do chores is beneficial to both of you, as long as tasks are age-appropriate and not too physically challenging.
So, your kids may be wondering: How in the world are chores beneficial to your kids?
Well, here they are, the Top 10 Benefits of Chores:

1 – They facilitate physical development.
Having chores from a young age helps to develop gross and fine motor skills and coordination.
They get to practice doing things that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to do like sorting laundry or putting them into the dishwasher.

4 – Keep kids busy and out of trouble.
There’s some truth to the idea that when kids are doing a household task, you know they’re engaged in a positive behavior that could benefit them in the future.
This is better than them being bored or playing video games for hours on end.

5 – Kids contribute to the home.
Doing chores provides kids with ways to contribute to the household.
As children feel like they’re contributing in some way, they begin to develop and build pride. “I can dust the tables all by myself” is a powerful message for a 7-year-old.
They know they can do it because they HAVE been doing it.

Consistently giving chores to kids builds their sense of their own abilities.
This is also how confidence and resilience is built – by doing things and knowing you can do them all.
After all, think of all the things they’ve learned how to do over the years.
- From cleaning up after themselves to making their beds and sweeping the floors, chores assigned by parents greatly contribute to children’s positive self-esteem.
- These tasks aren’t alien activities that they have never tried before. Instead they have been mastered from the comfort of their own home.

CHORES OF THE HOUSE AND WHY KIDS NEED TO DO THEM
7 – Demonstrate the importance of taking care of personal items and one’s home.
The best way to show a child how important it is to take care of his own property and the house is to assign him chores.
This way, your child observes and experiences how life is lived and discovers first-hand the necessities of doing certain chores.
The house just doesn’t mysteriously turn clean – it gets cleaned on a consistent basis!
It take a household of people working together to make sure everything looks nice.

8 – Teach kids responsibility.
When a child is solely responsible for a job getting done in the home, he learns to take responsibility for that task.
As they mature, children learn that people in the home depend on them to complete their chores properly and in a timely fashion.
If they don’t do it, it doesn’t get done and the consequence could be negative to everyone else in the family (messy house, clutter etc).

9 – Children discover the value of cooperation.
When large chores, like raking leaves, are shared by the whole family, kids see how integral it is to cooperate with one another.
Things get done soooo much quicker when you have more people helping you, right?
- For example, two people can rake the leaves and then help each other with bagging them. Then, a third family member can move the bags to the curb.
- Taking part in these “live-action teaching moments” impresses on your kids the value of working cheerfully with one another. Also, it instills the idea that in many instances, cooperation is vital to getting the job done. Ask for help and you will get it done quicker!

10 – Introduce children to the world of work.
Assigning chores in your home will be your children’s first introduction to working.
And my gosh it is something they need to learn sooner or later.
- One of the most important things you can do for your kids is to teach them about what it’s like to have a job and have people counting on them to carry it through.
- Plus, children will learn how to enjoy and look forward to working. Having a good strong work ethic is something we can start to build in our kids from a young age.

All in all, giving chores to your kids will teach them crucial lessons about life, cooperation, and work.
So have no fear; you aren’t being a bad parent if you give your child chores to do.
