Getting Back On Track – 9 Steps To Get You Back On Track
Getting back on track? Here are the 9 steps you need to go through to ensure that your life is back on track.
Let’s chat about getting back on track.
Ever wondered what makes a life “on track” versus “completely off the rails?”
And if so, how does one judge whether their life is going well or not?
FYI: just because there is no set “correct” path for life that doesn’t mean there aren’t particular clues that let you know if you’re doing well.
If you want to get back on track, it’s important to make sure things are moving forward in the right direction. However if things are moving in the wrong direction, you will know some changes are in order.
Here are 9 signs to look for to ensure that you’re getting back on track in life:

GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 1 – You have a clear vision for your life that appeals to you.
If you’re over 18 and you still haven’t decided on a direction for your life, there could be room for improvement here.
Word of warning here: NO you don’t need to decide on one career that you need to keep for the rest of your life.
And NO you don’t need to know what you are planning to do at 25 or 30 or 40 or 50.
But you do need to have some sort of plan.
It’s okay if your plans change later on.
But if you’re not working toward something or you are just cruising through life aimlessly there’s a chance your ship may dock somewhere that you would prefer it wouldn’t.
Choose something.
You can always change your mind later.
- Consider the type of life you want to live. How do you want to live each day? Be future focused and start making that happen.
- Have goals that you’re consistently making progress toward. At the very least take consistent baby steps. You would be surprised at how much progress you can make by just moving one foot forward after another.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 2 – You are learning what you need to learn.
It’s my belief that knowledge is power and we should never stop learning, no matter what age we are.
So what do you need to learn to live the life you want?
Think about the lessons and trainings that will help you get to where you want to go.
- For example, if you want to be a lawyer, you need to go to college and then attend law school. It’s that simple. Sitting home and watching Netflix day in and day out will not get you that law degree my friend!
- Many goals will require you to gain additional knowledge. The cool thing is there is information available everywhere nowadays to help you get that knowledge you need.
- Test it out now. Think of a question you would like answered today. The fact is almost every query can be answered by doing a simple Google or YouTube search.
- There’s honestly so much you can learn on your own these days that there’s no reason not to be educating yourself as much as possible. No excuses my friend!
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 3 – Your credit score is strong.
If your credit score totally stinks, this is a sign you may not be doing as well as you could be.
FYI: You don’t need to be wealthy to have a good credit score.
You primarily need to pay your bills on time and avoid using too much of your available credit.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 4 – You have a social life.
Humans are social creatures and it’s so important for our mental health to have nurtured healthy and strong relationships with family and friends.
Even the most introverted of introverts still need to interact with others on occasion.
You may personally benefit from a bigger social circle or a smaller one, depending on your needs but either way you need people in your life that you can trust and depend on.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 5 – You have a place to sleep and food to eat.
Have a bed and place to sleep in?
Yay for you.
Have food in your fridge?
Even better!
It’s so important to keep in mind that much of the world’s population is without a bed, food, or water.
If you have these things, be proud of yourself as you’re doing better than most.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 6 – You are able to take care of your health issues.
I’m sure you already know that good health is our greatest wealth.
As such when our life is on track, this means we are usually giving attention to our health and making it a priority.
Good questions to ask yourself include:
Is your weight under control?
Do you have access to the medical care that you require?
Do you have the financial resources to pay for those services?
If you answered yes to all of the above, you can confidently tick this box too.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 7 – You have a sufficient income to pay for the necessities.
Even though money isn’t everything it is important to have enough to cover your basic needs.
So ask yourself this question: can you pay your rent or mortgage each month?
Do you have enough food and clothes?
Can you pay your utility bills?
If you’re struggling to pay your bills each month, this is a sign that your life isn’t on track.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 8 – You’re doing better than you were last year.
This is one of my favorite questions to ask myself when I think that life is going through a rough patch – has there still been some growth or improvement over the last year?
Is my life better is some ways?
Even if you are struggling right now, if your life is improving or you are a few steps forward, it’s a great sign that your life is on track.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK
GOOD SIGN # 9 – You have the freedom to be yourself.
I absolutely love the quote by Moshe Dayan who said: Freedom is the oxygen of the soul.
If you feel compelled to be someone you’re not, there’s a chance you’re not on the right track.
Freedom is being you without asking permission.
To find yourself you need to THINK for yourself.
Another great quote by Nelson Mandela: “to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
Freedom means you have the understanding that your life is in your hands.
You have a CHOICE to do things that serve you best.
Now it’s true that everyone’s life veers off the chosen path now and then.
Humans are prone to making mistakes at times!
However it’s important to you to recognize when this is happening and take the appropriate steps to get things back on course.
