HOW TO BE NORMAL

How To Be Normal – Start By Normalising All Of This In Your Life….

If you want to know how to be normal…there’s no simple answer but you can definitely start here by normalising these things…

Let’s chat about how to be normal.

I think you all know that the answer to this question: HOW TO BE NORMAL? is this:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NORMAL.

Consider the following quotes:

A โ€˜normal personโ€™ is what is left after society has squeezed out all unconventional opinions and aspirations out of a human being.โ€ Mokokoma Mokhonoana

The only people we can think of as normal are those we don’t yet know very well. Alain de Botton

Normal is relative. Alethea Kontis

But still stick with me here because the truth is: plenty of people have normalised actions in this world that MAKE US FEEL TOTALLY CRAP.

So here are a few things I would love to normalise:

HOW TO BE NORMAL

I’d love to normalise all of this:

๐Ÿค Asking for help

๐Ÿค Embracing your flaws

๐Ÿค Making mistakes

๐Ÿค Owning your mistakes

๐Ÿค Saying no when we want to say no

๐Ÿค Knowing it’s okay to not be okay

๐Ÿค Feeling negative emotions

๐Ÿค Having a rest when your mind and body needs it

๐Ÿค Not having to justify why we set particular boundaries

๐Ÿค Ditching toxic people from your life

๐Ÿค Doing what needs to be done (even when you donโ€™t โ€œfeel like itโ€)

๐Ÿค Encouraging kids to think for themselves and be different

๐Ÿค Speaking up when we see something wrong

๐Ÿค Sticking up for others who donโ€™t have the strength or power to do it themselves

๐Ÿค Showing compassion for others

Think about the flipside of each of these points:

๐Ÿ’” Thinking you need to do it all yourself

๐Ÿ’” Beating yourself up for not being perfect

๐Ÿ’” Actively avoiding or fearing failure

๐Ÿ’” Blaming other people when things go wrong

๐Ÿ’” Feeling the pressure to say yes when we want to say no

๐Ÿ’”Feeling like we need to hide or put on a happy face when weโ€™re going through a hard season in life

๐Ÿ’” Resisting negative emotions rather than allowing them to be

๐Ÿ’” Thinking being busy is the goal and that resting = laziness.

๐Ÿ’” Having people overstep your boundaries because they arenโ€™t clear.

๐Ÿ’” Or even worse, having people badger you to ignore your boundaries because they donโ€™t like them

๐Ÿ’” Spending time with people who totally drain your energy and/or drag you down

๐Ÿ’” Procrastinating and wasting time because youโ€™re โ€œnot in the moodโ€

๐Ÿ’” Having kids who blindly follow others without tapping into their own resourcefulness and uniqueness

๐Ÿ’” Letting injustice occur without doing anything to stop it

๐Ÿ’” Failing to see the humanness in others. In the end, every human in this world just wants to be loved, appreciated and understood.

We can work on removing the second list from our life just by normalising the things on the first one. And that my friend will make you a HAPPIER VERSION of whatever your form of normal is.ย ย
