Inspiring Life School Podcast – Why We Changed The Name
Our podcast name has changed! It’s no longer Dream Big My Friend and is now Inspiring Life School. Here’s why (our story)!
Let’s chat about the Inspiring Life School Podcast.
Yes, if you’re wondering whether there is something different about this podcast, the name has indeed been changed.
After recording 287 episodes with the name Dream Big My Friend I have taken the leap and rebranded it to Inspiring Life School and I thought I would share with you a quick episode to explain why I made the change and how things might look a little different from hereon on the podcast.
INSPIRING LIFE SCHOOL PODCAST
So Dream Big My Friend….when I started this podcast 2.5 years I was absolutely in love with this name. I loved the way it stirred up in me all these feelings of hope and possibility.
Sometimes we forget what it feels like to dream, we forget that there is an amazing world out there beyond our little bubble, that’s filled with so many opportunities and adventures.
So I wanted to help every single one of you dream a little bigger for yourself and do whatever you could to make the most of this one wild and precious life you have been gifted with.
To help you realise that you aren’t going to get a chance to get back your lost days, months or years or to reclaim any time that has been wasted so the right time to do things, say things and be things WAS NOW.

But then after a while and to be honest I feel like I’ve been feeling this way for the last six months, I realised it wasn’t enough for me to tell you to dream big my friend. Just dreaming my friend with zero action will get you NOWHERE.
It’s funny because after I had made a decision to instigate this name change I started reading the book THE YEAR OF YES BY SHONDA RIMES.
Seriously, I’ve heard people rave about this book for years and I only picked it up for the first time in years – I don’t even know why I waited so long.
But there’s a passage in this book that I stumbled upon yesterday and it’s from her Dartmouth Commencement Speech that she gave on June 8th 2014 and I want to share with you a bit of it now.

The title of this speech was DREAMS ARE FOR LOSERS and part of it goes as follows:
“When people give these kinds of speeches, they usually tell you all kinds of wise and heartfelt things. They have wisdom to impart. They have lessons to share. They tell you:
Follow your dreams. Listen to your spirit. Change the world. Make your mark. Find your inner voice and make it sing. Embrace failure. Dream. Dream and dream big. As a matter of fact, dream and don’t stop dreaming until your dream comes true. I think that’s crap.”
“I think a lot of people dream. And while they are busy dreaming, the really happy people, the really successful people, the really interesting, powerful, engaged people? Are busy doing.
The dreamers. They stare at the sky and they make plans and they hope and they think and they talk about it endlessly. And they start a lot of sentences with “I want to be . . .” or “I wish . . .”“I want to be a writer.” “I wish I could travel around the world.”
And they dream of it. The buttoned-up ones meet for cocktails and they all brag about their dreams. The hippie ones have vision boards and they meditate on their dreams.
You write in your journal about your dreams. Or discuss it endlessly with your best friend or your girlfriend or your mother. And it feels really good. You’re talking about it. You’re planning it. Kind of. You are blue-skying your life. And that is what everyone says you should do. Right? That’s what Oprah and Bill Gates did to get successful, right?
Dreams are lovely. But they are just dreams. Fleeting, ephemeral. Pretty. But dreams do not come true just because you dream them.
It’s hard work that makes things happen. It’s hard work that creates change.
LESSON ONE: DITCH THE DREAM. BE A DOER, NOT A DREAMER.
Maybe you know exactly what you dream of being. Or maybe you’re paralyzed because you have no idea what your passion is.”
“The truth is, it doesn’t matter. You don’t have to know.
You just have to keep moving forward. You just have to keep doing something, seizing the next opportunity, staying open to trying something new. It doesn’t have to fit your vision of the perfect job or the perfect life.
Perfect is boring, and dreams are not real. Just . . . DO. You think, “I wish I could travel”—you sell your crappy car and buy a ticket and go to Bangkok right now. I’m serious. You say, “I want to be a writer”—guess what? A writer is someone who writes every day.
Start writing. Or: You don’t have a job? Get one. ANY JOB. Don’t sit at home waiting for the magical dream opportunity. Who are you? Prince William? No. Get a job. Work. Do until you can do something else.”

I think it’s so telling that I read these words of Shonda’s the exact day that I just decided – YEP I’M DOING THIS!
I’m changing the name of my podcast from Dream Big My Friend to Inspiring Life School because she so eloquently shared her thoughts on what I have always known is true.
That dreaming is just one part of the equation and dreaming alone is not enough. So make sure to go out and buy this book by Shonda Rimes called THE YEAR OF YES. I’ve only just started reading and I’m absolutely loving it.

But this is exactly why I felt like I needed to change the name of the podcast. Because it began to feel like the old name of this podcast was doing a disservice to you.
I felt like it was giving you this impression that dreaming big was great which yes it is but dreaming big without getting off your butt to make things happen is robbing you of so much potential joy and fulfilment and adventure in your life.
Abraham Lincoln so wisely said: in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. And I didn’t want you to spend your life just dreaming big but putting things off until tomorrow even though you could totally possibly do it today.

Like even this name change at first I thought oh I should wait until the New Year to make the change but then I thought that’s ridiculous.
Why not do it now? What am I waiting for? As soon as I knew this name change was the right move for me to take, as soon as I knew intuitively that it needed to be done, I GOT TO WORK AND MADE IT HAPPEN.

INSPIRING LIFE SCHOOL PODCAST
So that brings me to the new name Inspiring Life School – you may be wondering what made me choose this name. Well ever since I started my first website which is InspiringMomLife.com my registered business here where I live has been Inspiring Life Australia.
Life is something I always want to be inspired by. I want to be inspired to learn, inspired to dream, inspired to do, inspired to help, inspired to connect, inspired to live this one amazing, precious life we have been gifted with here on earth.
I personally see all of life as a school, a school where I am constantly learning something new, constantly growing, evolving and upleveling in life and I desire the same for you.
To never reach a point in your life where you think YEP THAT’S IT, I know everything there is to know, there’s no more learning and growing here for me to do.
Gandhi said: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever and that’s why this podcast is here to serve you from here on as the Inspiring Life School.

As you know I create digital courses for you with one main goal of helping you live life more simply and effortlessly without the unnecessary layer of stress, drama and overwhelm added to your life.
I love this idea of not only this podcast existing as a school filled with content that will help you live a more inspiring life but also knowing you always have the option of diving deeper into this work by going to my website InspiringMomLife and purchasing my courses which will help you grow more, do more, have more and be more in life.

INSPIRING LIFE SCHOOL PODCAST
One final point I want to acknowledge is that all the previous episodes here on Inspiring Life School will continue to have the old intro and when you listen to them they will still say Dream Big My Friend.
Which is totally fine with me…I intentionally chose to leave them as is because I’m so proud of those previous episodes and every single one was created with the energy of genuinely wanting you to dream big while providing you with the tools on exactly how to do so within the show.
But moving forward I will be encouraging you to do more than just dream. You may find a little more tough love here because my mission for the next year is to kickstart my personal ONE WILD PRECIOUS LIFE PROJECT.
In 2023 I will make sure I am soaking up every single moment of this life I have and this will require me to get even better at managing my time, mind and life better. This is what I’m already excellent at, but my goal is to uplevel even more in life and I want you to join me on this amazing adventure.
