5 Questions Pivotal to Personal Development
One of the key secrets to personal growth is asking the RIGHT QUESTIONS and not giving up until you find the right answer.
If you are feeling stuck, there’s a chance you may not be looking in the right place for the answers.
Asking yourself questions is an excellent way to find the answers you need.
So where do you begin when it comes to question asking?
Well I have made it as easy for you as possible here.
THOUGHT-PROVOKING QUESTIONS
This post identifies 5 key questions that are pivotal to personal development.
When you ask your brain the right questions you immediately stimulate your thought processes to brainstorm solutions for the biggest problems in your life.
You can start by asking yourself the following questions that make you think.
These questions are the ones that matter the most:

THOUGHT-PROVOKING QUESTIONS
1 – How do I sabotage myself?
Ah self-sabotage…in case you haven’t already learned this from personal experience, it seriously sucks!
The good news is: you are not alone.
We are all prone to self-sabotage in different areas of our life.
On occasion we talk ourselves out of things that would lead to success and happiness.
We procrastinate.
We compare ourselves harshly to others.
We resort to a victim mentality that keeps us feeling stuck.
- Make a list now of the ways you’ve sabotaged yourself in the past.
- How are you your own worst enemy?
- Be on the lookout for these same patterns in the future.
- Brainstorm ideas on how you can nip self-sabotage in the bud (or kick it in the butt!)

2 – How can I use more of the useful knowledge and skills I already have?
Admit it, you already have a lot of knowledge, most of which you have never actioned or used to your advantage.
I know and you know that you’re a smarter cookie that some people (YOURSELF INCLUDED) give you credit for.
In today’s world, information is everywhere.
We know more than we ever have before.
Google offers us answers to every question we could possible ask.
The average person knows enough to make a million dollars, have the body of a supermodel, and marry the person of our dreams.
We know the answers IN THEORY but guess what, knowing is not enough.
If it was, we would all be walking around super rich, super happy, super blessed in our life.
The truth is we often fail to put what we know into practice.

Why though?
Why don’t you use all the great things you already know?
- Consider all the things you know about diet and exercise.
- Do you apply that knowledge?
- How are you NOT applying it to your life?
- How much do you know about saving and investing for the future?
- What can you do to brighten your financial outlook?
- How much do you know about relationships?
- Are you taking full advantage of that information?
- Why not?
THOUGHT-PROVOKING QUESTIONS
Imagine what your life would look like if you applied everything you already know.
It would look a little different, right?
But most people are convinced they don’t yet have enough information.
They think they need to know more, more, more.
The truth is most of us are information junkies always seeking more and more information, as if an elusive answer still hasn’t been revealed to us.
In reality, this is really just a form of procrastination.
People don’t do what needs to be done.
They just don’t perform the actions that they know to be effective nor do they avoid counterproductive actions.
They THINK way too much instead of actually TAKING ACTION.
Make a list now of everything you do that you know you shouldn’t.
Then make a list of everything you fail to do, but know that you should.
Are you prepared to ACT on this new self-reflection knowledge?
THOUGHT-PROVOKING QUESTIONS
3 – What can I actually control?
I want you now to think about what can control in this world.
News alert: We spend far too much time worrying about things that can’t be controlled and TOO LITTLE TIME effectively controlling those things that are within our realm of control.
- We spend most of our childhood and early adulthood trying to control the uncontrollable.
- And then we reach our adult years – maturity is understanding what can be controlled and then figuring out the best way to control it.
- What are you worrying about right now that you can’t control?
- Are you willing to let it go and focus instead on the things that ARE in your control?
THOUGHT-PROVOKING QUESTIONS
4 – Why am I doing all of this?
Most of the things we do are for others.
Many people think they’re buying items for themselves, when the truth is it’s to impress others with their new car, new clothes, new house etc.
Is this true for you?
- How much are you actually doing for yourself?
- How many things do you do only because others are watching?
- Would you drive a luxury car if no one would ever know about it?
- Would you dress in expensive clothes if no one ever saw you wearing them?
- Are your goals about satisfying yourself or impressing others? Are you only trying to live up to the expectations of others?
Obviously there are no right or wrong answers here.
This isn’t about judging yourself.
It isn’t about beating yourself up for caring about what other people think.
You need to instead work out your ULTIMATE WHY in life and make sure it is in alignment with your values.
Otherwise you may be left feeling discontent if the dreams you are chasing exist only to make other people happy, instead of yourself.

5 – What is most important to me?
Here’s another sucky truth.
We spend way too much time on frivolous activities, wasting our precious time, mainly because we haven’t defined our priorities.
Do you know what your priorities are?
What is most important to you?
- If you could only have one career for the rest of your life, what would it be?
- If you could only be with one person for the rest of your life, what characteristics would that person possess and who would that person be?
- What sort of parent do you want to be?
- What sort of child, sibling, friend, partner do you want to be?
- What are the three places you’d most like to visit?
- What are the three things you’d most like to accomplish?
On your deathbed, what do you think your biggest regrets in life will be?
- How can you make sure that what you deem to be most important becomes a bigger priority in your life?
- What are these priorities in your life and WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW TO REFLECT THESE PRIORITIES?

So there you have it.
Five pivotal personal development questions you should consider asking yourself on a regular basis.
When it comes to asking questions, I could seriously list a hundred more for you to ponder on but these here are a good start.
The goal of a good question is to help you find a solution to your problem.
Instead of asking “why does this always happen to me?” ask yourself “how can I stop myself from repeating the same mistakes over and over again in my life?”
Instead of asking “why do I always do stupid things?” ask yourself “how can I behave in a more intelligent way?”
Instead of “why me?” ask “why not me?”
Instead of “why do I always get off track?” ask “how do I make sure I stay ON TRACK?”
By asking yourself more effective questions, you will finally get all the answers you need to put your personal development into overdrive.
I wish you the best of luck with taking the time to answer these questions.
