Why Am I So Unhappy – 6 Things That Impact Your Happiness

Not happy? Here are 6 common habits that limit happiness. You absolutely need to ditch these unhappy habits to have more happiness in your life.

Let’s talk about this question: “why am I so unhappy?”

I think it’s fair to state that the goal of every human is to be happier.

Most of us just have a different set of criteria of what that happiness actually means.

On a day to day basic we often limit our own happiness.

This can be good news, because if you’re responsible for the limitations, you can remove them whenever you choose to!

The choices you make each day can either increase or decrease your potential to experience happiness.

You are in control of your happiness my friend!

One thing is for sure, the wrong habits can make happiness far less likely to be part of your experience.

However once you identify and remove these counterproductive habits it can definitely lead to greater levels of positive emotions.

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

Here are 6 things you can avoid because they ultimately drive happiness away from your life:

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

REASON # 1 – A lack of goals.

One of the most important components of happiness is making progress toward a goal.

If you don’t have goals, you can’t make progress toward them, and that limits your happiness.

  • At the very least have a goal for the day, the week, and something long-term. You need to have something to work for.
  • You need to have an ultimate why in life! A little progress each day can really lift your spirits in a big way.

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

REASON # 2 – Low standards.

You may have heard the phrase expect little so you won’t be disappointed.

Or when you have expectations you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

But this can actually backfire in your life!

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

Low standards have positive and negative consequences.

If you’re easily satisfied, you’re unlikely to be disappointed.

However, you’re also unlikely to ever accomplish much.

You’re also more likely to have low-quality relationships.

Never! I repeat never lower your standards for anyone. Never sacrifice your self-pride for the one you love. Because the right one will raise his standards for you and the one who’s deserving will never put you in a situation where you have to choose between the two. Shivali Rakesh

A person with low standards will forever be walking. A person with high standards will soon stop walking and start running. Later they’ll soon stop running and start galloping. The next time you see him. He’s either flying or soaring. Israelmore Aylvor

Let us be about setting high standards for life, love, creativity and wisdom. If our expectations in these areas are low, we are not likely to experience wellness. Setting high standards makes every day and every decade worth looking forward to. Greg Anderson

Underachieving never feels good.

  • If you raise your standards, your life will be happier.

  • Part of the reason some people make millions of dollars a year is that the idea of making less is unacceptable to them. Those with a relentless determination for more refuse to settle for less.

  • Ask yourself now: What are your standards? Have you even thought about your standards?

REASON # 3 – Trying to live as a lone wolf.

It can be tempting to shut yourself off from the world and just do your own thing.

However, few people are really built to be happy with that type of lifestyle.

  • Most people who choose this path have experienced pain in their interactions with others. Being alone can be a relief, but it’s not a solution.
  • If you’re a bit of a loner, that just means your relationships need to be very high in quality to be worthy of your time. Keep looking for high-quality friendships and avoid wasting your time on anything less.
  • Many people do quite well with relatively little human contact. But, that’s not the same as no human contact. Everyone needs a friend or two. Not everyone needs 15 friends, though. We are social creatures.

Man is, at one and the same time, a solitary being and a social being. Albert Einstein

I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone. Robin Williams

Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking. Marcus Aurelius

REASON # 4 – Unreasonable timelines.

News alert: You can accomplish just about anything if you give yourself enough time.

Trying to accomplish too much, too quickly however, will likely lead to disappointment.

This isn’t an effective way to make yourself happy.

The key to happiness is letting each situation be what it is instead of what you think it should be.

Let us keep our expectations at a realistic level.

Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day to day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life. Marilu Henner

Realistic expectations for life are that we are going to be better today than we were yesterday, be better tomorrow than we were today. That’s a plan for success. So the key is simple: just work. Jim Harbaugh

REASON # 5 – Being a poor loser. Failing is perfectly fine, provided you learn something from it.

I have this belief that there are no mistakes in life, only lessons to be learned.

There is a gem hidden inside every terrible thing that happens to us – we just need to dig for it and find it.

However, if you’re not taking full advantage of your failings, if you insist on beating yourself up instead, you’re not going to be happy.

I’m sorry but it’s true!

Please don’t be your own worst enemy instead of your own best friend.

Speak to yourself as if you would someone you sincerely love.

If you’re going to fail, make it your goal to learn something from that experience.

There is always, always something to be learned!

Failure is in fact not the opposite of success but a PART of success.

Your dream doesn’t have an expiration date.

Take a deep breath and try again today.

You have to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life.

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. Winston Churchill

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work. Thomas Edison

REASON # 6 – Poor diet and exercise.

This is a connection that a lot of people surprisingly miss but our mental health and happiness to our physical health.

If you’re eating poorly, you won’t look or feel good.

Do I need to add an obviously here?

Neglecting your health is definitely not a recipe for happiness.

If you’re not exercising enough, you will also feel crap.

You need to get your body MOVING often and start feeding your body the nutritious foods it needs in order to FEEL better.

  • A healthy diet and regular exercise can add to your health, happiness, and general well-being. Eating well and exercising regularly is a form of self-love and self-respect.

  • You can’t control everything but you can control what you put into your body and what you do with and for your body.

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

Repeat after me: Today is my tomorrow. It’s up to me to shape it, to take control and seize every opportunity. The power is in the choices I make each day. I eat well, I live well, I strive for peace and calm and happiness.

So in a nutshell, there are many things you can do to feel happiness more consistently in your life.

There are also many things you can do to decrease the likelihood of feeling happy.

Before you do, say, or think anything, I recommend that you ask yourself, “How will this impact my happiness?”

Your thoughts, words, and actions DO have an impact.

You always, always have a choice so make sure to consider the impact of those choices before following through on your decisions and actions.

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

In the end, your happiness is largely under your control.

Happiness is about enjoying the little things in life.

You deserve to be happy.

You deserve to live a life you love and are excited about.

Don’t let others make you forget that.

Don’t let yourself ever forget that either.

If you want to be happy, you can simply CHOOSE to be happy! IT’S A CHOICE YOU MAKE EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE.
