Let’s have a conversation today about encouraging entrepreneurship in children.
Given that I have a business of my own, I love the idea of teaching these entrepreneurial skills to our young ones.
Deep down, I truly believe most of of us aspires to be an entrepreneur in some way.
This is true if you have something you are passionate about and desire to get out of the 9-5 daily grind.
When you have your own business, you get to work for yourself, on your terms and you reap all the rewards, rather than giving credit to someone else.
However, it usually takes a lot of time and energy to follow your true passion – plus a lot of self-confidence.
The main problem is that so many of us lack that confidence and instead find ourselves falling into a job we don’t love and then we spend a great portion of our lives may be spent working to build someone else’s wealth.
And this sort of seriously sucks – if you work at a job that doesn’t make you feel happy and fulfilled inside.
But – and here’s a big but – if that confidence was instilled within us at a younger age, we might all have the courage to open up a business sooner rather than never.
The cool thing is you can give your children the opportunity to truly be in charge of their lives by encouraging a sense of entrepreneurship in their youth.
Encouraging entrepreneurship within your children can teach them to be:
- Self-sufficient
- More creative
- An effective leader
- A strong decision maker
- A good problem solver
- A confident risk-taker
- And have faith in their ideas and ability to succeed
And guess what?
We can easily foster this love for entrepreneurship in our kids.
Except raising an entrepreneur is more than telling your child to make money; it’s about telling them to go against the crowd and follow their own intuition.
Since many parents have instilled this sense of confidence in their children, the sight of self-made wealthy teens is becoming more and more common.
Did you know you can encourage your kids to follow their dreams when they are still young?
Like you can just tell them those words: FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.
You can do it!
There are so many examples of young people who have started their own businesses.
So if it’s possible for them, it’s possible for your kids too.
When encouraging entrepreneurship within your children, the only thing you have to fear is declaring that your teenager earns a higher yearly income than you.
But that’s not such a terrible thing, right? I mean, we want our kids to succeed in wonderful ways.

The only startup cash necessary was $15 to register her website and a small monthly fee (typically less than $10) to host her website.
Plus, obviously a lot of faith and determination.

Teaching your children about entrepreneurship need not require a fat pocket.
In fact, the basis of an entrepreneurial mindset is self-sufficiency and does not require a load of money upfront to make it happen.

It seriously costs next to nothing to purchase a domain name and start up your own website nowadays.
If your children are old enough, they can get an after-school job or help around the house in exchange for a weekly allowance.
Did you know that many business ideas can be funded for less than $100.
Yes, how cool is that?
Once your child has invested time, effort, and their own money into their business startup, they are more likely to see it through and become successful business owners.
So, what can you do today to encourage that entrepreneurial spirit in your child?
Begin by asking them questions.
What would they love to do in life?
What are their passions?
Research inspiring stories of kids and teens who have started successful businesses from the comfort of their own home.
It often helps for kids to know that they are not alone in this dream and that it HAS been done before in some shape or form.

When kids learn what is possible, they too can begin to learn each step of the way what is required of them to set up a business.
Then they can tweak their business until it becomes profitable.
Tell your kids there is no rush.
They can take their time and it is important for your child to embrace failure as a learning experience rather than see it as a collapse.
Knowing that failure is a very normal part of the journey will give your flourishing entrepreneur more confidence to keep on going.

You can encourage entrepreneurship within your kids by teaching them that:
- Any idea is a valid business idea
- Failure is okay as long as you keep improving
- A profitable business requires continuous learning and tweaking
- Google is a wealth of information and they can find answers online to almost any question that they may have.
- Creativity is what counts but persistence is even more important.
- Being innovative makes you stand out from your competitors so don’t be afraid to be different.
In the end, there is a chance that some of your child’s business ideas will lead to great success, while others provide little more than a tremendous learning experience.
Both options are okay.
Some ventures will prove to be highly profitable, while others may only produce a few dollars.

The key is to teach your children to be resilient and keep moving forward toward their dreams.
This is just the beginning for them, not the end.
Because it is possible for them to start their own business, even from a young age.
If your child’s business ideas succeed, continue to encourage them to seek greater levels of success.
Support their creative endeavors and along the way, continue to promote self-sufficiency, independent thinking, and confidence within your kids.
With these three traits, success is theirs for the taking!
