Why Am I So Unhappy? – 8 Things That Will Make You Miserable

Are you wondering “why am I so unhappy?’ Here are 8 things that will keep you stuck and make you miserable in life.

Let’s chat about this question: “why am I so unhappy?”

Here’s a news flash. Contrary to what you might believe, the world doesn’t have the ability to MAKE you feel miserable.

You make yourself miserable with the thoughts you are thinking.

Ouch, I know that might hurt to hear but it is true. YOUR THOUGHTS and what you think about things will always determine how you feel in life (and that includes feeling miserable).

It also follows that your thoughts impact your feelings, which impact your actions, which impact your results.

This means all your results – including your physique, bank account, and happiness – are the direct result of your daily habits.

It’s not easy to be miserable unless you are consistently doing things to create that misery with your own thoughts.

Fortunately, the good news is you can identify and change the habits that are making you unhappy.

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

So, if you want to be less miserable, avoid these mental habits and create joy instead:

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

REASON # 1 – STOP Making assumptions.

It’s too easy to assume you already know something you don’t.

But here’s the thing: assumptions destroy relationships and prevent you from taking action.

Why would you assume you won’t get that great job?

You could try being confident instead and go after it with everything you’ve got and prove it to yourself.

Get all the information you need before making your decisions and do your best.

Assumptions are frequently wrong (if you made them in haste and without fair judgement).

REASON # 2 – STOP Seeking approval from others.

No matter what you do, some people will think you’re a hero and others will think you’re NOT.

And that’s okay because it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

A healthy adult will make choices and take actions that they believe and feel in their heart are correct.

What is right for you won’t necessarily be right for someone else?

  • FYI – It seriously doesn’t matter if your neighbors, brother-in-law, or your mom approve if you aren’t happy with your decision. Making others happy at the expense of your own happiness only leads to misery.

REASON # 3 – Comparing yourself to others.

In case you haven’t worked it out, there will always ALWAYS be someone in this world with a nicer car, a more attractive wardrobe, a better body, or a bigger paycheck.

That’s why life is so much more peaceful when you only compare yourself to yourself.

Are you moving forward, going backwards or staying stuck?

As long as you are moving in the right direction you are on the right track!

If you’re making progress overtime, you’re winning the game of life.

If you’re losing ground, that’s a sign that a few adjustments are in order.

REASON # 4 – STOP Procrastination.

Time is the great equalizer.

You might not have been born into a wealthy family, possess a 150 IQ, or look like a movie star.

But everyone has 24 hours available each day.

How you use that time determines your outcomes.

Wasting time creates stress and drama that no one needs.

If you procrastinate frequently, your life is less than it could be.

REASON # 5 – STOP Indecisiveness.

Indecisiveness is the ultimate form of procrastination.

Choosing nothing is making a choice.

It’s a choice to remain stuck and allow life to pass you by.

If you’re stuck between a couple of options, just choose.

One choice will prove to be as good as another.

  • If you’ve done the work to narrow your options, the worst remaining option is much better than failing to make a choice.

REASON # 6 – STOP Only being satisfied with perfection.

When you’re a perfectionist, nothing is ever good enough.

It’s the perfect recipe for misery.

Give yourself plenty of ways to be happy, not just one.

The need for perfection also creates indecisiveness and leads to procrastination.

Determine how well something needs to be done and make it happen.

WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?

REASON # 7 – STOP Underestimating yourself.

After a negative outcome, it’s easy to believe you’re less capable than you really are.

The natural result is the lowering of your expectations in the future.

When you expect less of yourself, you live a life that’s less than it could be.

  • Focus on your past successes and remind yourself of how capable you can be. Learning to walk and talk are more challenging than anything else you’ll ever accomplish.

  • The hard part is over. Now move forward and take all the other challenges in your stride.

REASON # 8 – STOP Beating yourself up.

Mistakes are part of the game.

Learn from them and apply the information you’ve gained.

How would your life be if you never made the same mistake twice?

You might think you deserved to be punished, but how is that helpful?
