REINVENTING YOURSELF

DAY 1 CHALLENGE

LIMIT SOCIAL MEDIA CONSUMPTION TO MAX 15 MINUTES

Hey my friend and welcome to this 3 day challenge that’s called The Reinvention Formula. Before we dive in deep I want to give you a quick little introduction, in case we haven’t met before.

My name is Frances Vidakovic and I’m the CEO of InspiringMomLife.com and host of the Dream Big My Friend podcast. I help women live life with more intention and courage so that they get their goals they want with zero regret and I do this via my coaching and courses.

Let’s first chat about what Reinvention actually means and why I’m running this 3 day challenge for you. So my favorite definition of reinvention is as follows: the action or process through which something is changed so much that it appears to be entirely new.

REINVENTING YOURSELF

If you’ve ever thought to yourself…oh my gosh I wish I could just do this inside my own life – reinvent different aspects of it and give birth to something new, then you’re in the right place.

Now here’s something you may have discovered after stating a goal like: I want things to change, I want to live and dream a little bigger and bolder – change isn’t actually so easy to implement.

Whether you’re feeling incredibly uncomfortable or unfulfilled in your entire life or just one specific area like your health or career or relationships, our brains are actually quite resistant to change.

This is because our brains are wired to keep us safe inside our caves where nothing unpredictable can ever happen to us. But let’s be honest, nothing new or exciting ever happens there either. Inside this cave –  or what we might call our comfort zone nowadays – it can sometimes feel like we’re trapped in a cage.

REINVENTING YOURSELF

The reason I share this with you from the get go is so that you know in advance that change will require persistence and commitment from you.

Humans are wired to avoid pain, seek pleasure and conserve energy. However if you want to change, you will be required to experience discomfort, say goodbye to past pleasures like overindulging in food or TV and exert both the mental and physical energy required to take action.

You will also need to be willing to disrupt old behaviors, have a clear goal and reason why, develop self-discipline, think new thoughts about yourself and your ability to change.

This is because change doesn’t come for free. There’s a price you will need to pay for your dreams, for any goal in fact that you’re desiring to achieve.

The price for this change is being willing to feel uncomfortable…because negative emotions are 100% going to pop up on this journey to the New You that you’re reinventing yourself to be. And it’s okay! These uncomfortable negative feelings like doubt and overwhelm and fear are totally normal and just part of the process.

To be successful at change you need to be willing to get comfortable with the uncomfortable.

The cool thing is – with regards to the actions you will find inside this Reinvention Formula 3 day challenge – is that our goal is to take things slow. The three different challenges I will be recommending here are super simple yet powerful once executed.

They only require you to do one thing at a time because the strategy I’ve found to be most successful for instigating change is to do things at a baby steps pace.

I’m sure you’ve all heard The Tortoise and The Hare fable where the tortoise challenges the hare to a race.  The hare, who was super confident that he would win, went speeding off towards the finish line but then decided to have a little nap because he was so sure he had all the time in the world to win that race.

REINVENTING YOURSELF

We all know what happened in that story, right?

The tortoise kept on moving, plodding along slowly and surely, step by step, towards the finish line. And because he didn’t give up, because he kept moving at his own slow and steady pace, in the end, he won that race, even though from the outset the hare was the faster animal.

But we all know it really doesn’t matter much that the hare had the stamina and speed to win because in the end your actions are more important than your intentions. Even if you’re fully equipped to win a race, even if you’re smart and fully capable, that doesn’t mean much if you’re too busy sleeping under a tree while everyone else is moving in a forward direction.

So this is where I share with you the Day 1 Challenge for The Reinvention Formula. Today I challenge you to limit your social media intake to less than 15 minutes.

The reason this is your first challenge is because social media consumption is often the biggest time waster in our lives. So many of us complain that we don’t have time to do all the things that are important to us and yet we somehow manage to find hours each day to scroll through Instagram and Facebook.

It’s like magic, right? We suddenly have the power to make time appear out of thin air to spend on social media even though we don’t have time to go to the gym or work on our goals or visit our parents etc.

Is this true for you? Do you feel time-poor and yet still find time to scroll, scroll, scroll each day? Do you maybe even recognise that you’re spending way too much time on your phone and have the best of intentions to stay off it?

But each night you slip down a slippery rabbit hole leading to hours wasted watching meaningless reels about cute babies and funny dogs?

REINVENTING YOURSELF

REINVENTING YOUR LIFE

This is where I want to remind you that time is your most precious resource and the first step to reinventing yourself is to take back the time you’re wasting so that you can redirect it towards your true priorities in life.

It might be helpful here to do a little reality check and see exactly how much time you are spending on your phone.

If you have an iPhone: you can go to Settings > and tap on the Screen Time section there. Then tap on See All Activity and then tap Week to see a summary of your weekly use, or tap Day to see a summary of your daily use.

To find this info on your Android phone: go to the Settings menu and tap on or search for Digital Wellbeing and parental controls. This is where you will find all of your recent screen time for all your apps.

So what do your numbers look like for you? Are they high or low? How do you feel about the amount of time you spend on social media?

REINVENTING YOURSELF

REINVENTING YOUR LIFE

Now it’s time for me to share with you some tough love.

I’m challenging you today to limit your social media usage to less than 15 minutes because I care for you, not because I’m mean or want to punish you forever.

The goal is to try it just for one day – one day only – and I’m recommending this because I genuinely want the best for you.

I don’t want you to look back at your life and discover that you wasted years and years of your life on these false pleasures, watching other people live there life while you sat there holding this little rectangle in your hand – wasting time that could’ve spent with your family, with your goals, making your dreams come to fruition.

Remember reinventing and changing your life starts by taking tiny little baby steps and the easiest way to limit your social media consumption indefinitely is to start here today.

I want you to notice how you feel when you set this time constraint of no more than 15 minutes today. Does it help to stop the mindless scrolling? What can you do instead with this extra time you have now up for sleeve?

REINVENTING YOUR LIFE

More importantly, what things have you missed out on doing in the past – either intentionally or unintentionally – because you had “no time,” though let’s be honest, you still found time to jump onto social media? Does it include things like: going for a walk or to the gym?

Spending time with your partner or your kids? Working on a goal like writing a book or starting a new biz? If you were to remove wasting time on social media from your daily to-do list, what could you do with this freed up time instead?

REINVENTING YOURSELF

Here’s another question for you to consider while you are taking a break from social media today:

How do you feel when you aren’t bombarded with non-stop posts and ads on social media? Does your mind feel a little lighter and freer? What thoughts come to mind when you aren’t constantly consuming and feeding your brain with an onslaught of often meaningless information?

What are you now free to work on and spend time on? Who are you now free to be? Pay close attention to the answers that come to you when your mind is feeling less cluttered.

As Santosh Joshi so wisely said: to change the world around us, we need to change ourselves first. Gerard Way also noted: Sometimes you have to kind of die inside in order to rise from your own ashes and believe in yourself and love yourself to become a new person.

REINVENTING YOUR LIFE

So ask yourself these questions today:

How would the very best version of you show up today with this challenge?

How much time would he/she want to spend mindlessly scrolling?

What would this future version of you that is living life to the fullest want to do instead?

Part of reinventing yourself will require you to do things differently. The best place to start is by refusing to waste hours and ultimately days and weeks and months on your life on social media, especially if this activity often leaves you feeling frustrated and hollow.

REINVENTING YOURSELF

So that’s my first challenge for you today, the first step to reinventing yourself: limit your social media intake to no more than 15 minutes today.

Remember my friend: you are always, always, always the boss of your time. You get to decide what you spend your precious time on.

Throughout this three day challenge, I’ll be encouraging you to focus on three very simple activities that will lift you up rather than drag you down, that add to your life rather than take away from it. You have just been presented with the first one: limit your social media intake to no more than 15 minutes today.

So are you up for the challenge? Trust me when I say you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from giving this a go today.

Don’t overthink it too much. Don’t tell yourself silly excuses why it’s too hard. Just give it a go. Put your phone away just for one day. I know you can do it and if it helps you might want to view it as a fun experiment, which is something that will prepare you well for a life of reinvention and change in the future.

Be open. Be curious. Be willing to give things a go because often it’s the simplest, most innocent changes that end up having the biggest impact in our life.

I wish you the best of luck with this first challenge and I can’t wait to catch you on Day 2 of The Reinvention Formula Challenge.
