This was a splurge purchase for me, but I was looking for something that could keep my 18 month old warm at night this winter (our house doesn’t have heating upstairs where his room is, so during cold winter nights, his room can get really cold). I got the medium weight one and I’ve been so pleased with it! Even on freezing cold nights where it gets down to the teens at night outside, he stays warm in his blanket (I do dress him in normal pajamas with this blanket over that).
Even on nights where it isn’t too cold and his room is normal house temperature, he seems to stay comfortable in the blanket and rarely sweats in it. I also attribute his starting to sleep through the night (something he’s never done before… my kids aren’t great sleepers unfortunately!) to this blanket as well!
Win win! I was worried he wouldn’t like it because he hasn’t been in something like this since he was an infant and was swaddled at night, and it did take him a rough night or two to get used to it, but since then he’s really liked it and it has helped his sleep so much! He can still move around and stand up with it on, so he’s not too badly restricted. The quality of this blanket is great and I’ve thrown it in the washer & dryer with no problems. I’m a NICU nurse and we used these Halo wraps at a hospital I used to work at. They even gave one to the parents at discharge. This way baby has a safe blanket that won’t accidentally cover their little face while sleeping. They help the baby to feel snug and resettle to sleep after diaper changes and feeds and keeps them warm.
Best of all the baby’s lower body remains loose which is good for their development without causing any problems with their hips. The fleece ones like this one are nice and warm baby can be in a diaper or a onsie or tshirt and be comfortable. If you want to fully dress your infant in long sleeve footie outfits then you could leave the arms out or use the non fleece type they sell so baby doesn’t get too hot. The zipper also runs from the too closing downward to the bottom so you could potentially change the diaper without totally removing the wrap if needed but if not it is so easy to undo and do up again. When you open the velcro flaps there is velcro on the shoulder straps as well very convenient.
